we just got the car back in june, from a guy my father work with... it ran fine for 3 day and it started squeal when you start it up and also when the car would stop (like at a red light).. we change both belts and it stop for about 3 days and started uo again. We when and got a new alterantr and again good for a few day but thats it......

Now that car wont start at all!!

  • georgelbeale Jul 31, 2009

We replaced both of those belts...it stopped for like 2 or 3 days, then the squealing started back up again...then the check engine light came on, the squealing stopped, then a day later the alternator belt came off, and now the car will not start.

My father in law is going to replace the alternator later today, but I dont want to keep paying for parts if that is not it.

You need to tighten the altinator belt..
It squeels and falls off because it is too loose..
Losten the two bolt a bit on the altinator so it will move..
Put the belt on - loose is ok right now..
Use a very large scewdriver or a crowbar - find leverage - to push on the altinator in the derection that tightens the belt..
Once you have some good force on it - keep the force on it as you tighten the bolts..

This will take care of the problem.. ;o)

yes for sure dont buy parts that are not broken.

test any and all the best they can be tested to be sure.

there is a problem with a pulley for sure.

    now which one is it.

it sounds like the alt is the problem one.

take it off and have it tested at auto zone for free.

if its not having any problems dont buy one.

make sure they check for slop in the shaft and or bearings of the altternator.

if the bearings are not right it could be locking up and throwing the belt.

if not the alt bearings check all the pulleys for clean rotation and no shaft slop.

make sure the ac clutch is in very good rotational shape and no bearing slop.

also make sure there is not to much freon in the ac system causing a compressor lockup.

this could or would throw a belt also .

Why does my 2001 kia sephia squeal when i start it then again when i turn the air on

The problem is the alternator adjustment, it squeals because you have a rubber strap in touch with a metal wheel, so when it gets hot enough, the mechanism will have enough grip and will stop squealing. It gets even worse if you turn the A/C and/or the headlights on, because the car needs more electricity therefore, requiring more work from the alternator To solve this problem you have to loose the screw that holds the alternator, but only loose it to the point to be release, not disassembled, push it back until you get more tension to the belt and the wheel of the alternator and then hold it and thigh it back. You might want to do this on a brand new belt (just in case, besides, is not that expensive). I hope it helps, best regards.

All,dash lights came on-gas,all,then power dies down,lights conitually go dim,car quits running,before this i heard a squealing noise,what is going on w/car

Could be a bad alternator diode and it wasn't keeping the battery fully charged, which could be indicated by dimming lights, loss of power, or completely quitting when voltage becomes too low to properly fire plugs.

The squealing could have been a locked up alternator (probably caused by a bad bearing) and the drive belt is slipping on the drive pulley, making the squeal.

Hope this is of some help.

My 2000 kia sephia started to have a squeal come from under the hood and it gets louder as i try to accelerate & now the car also overheats but my radiator is new. To top it off my o/d lights started...

okay the squeal is a belt under the hood one of them may be to tight or worn out. also you can try spraying belt cleaner and lubricant. you can pick it up at any autoparts store. DO NOT USE WD40!!!!!!!
and if your car is overheating with a new radiator then you may just need to replace your thermastat.

No air kia sephia

I had the same problem, started about 150K miles. It had nothing to do with the fan motor or the switch. my problem was under the fuse box. it was shorting out and i couldn't figure out how to get the wire out or wedge it in to where it would hold, so i got an external inline fuse and bypassed fuse box. when doing that it bypassed the relay as well. by hey, the fan blower works now.
