Question about 2001 Volvo S60

Open Question

2001 volvo s60 brake lights out. mechanic not sure what's going on. Thinks it may be something with the relays. This car has had problems with lights since the day that I bought it (new). The dealer used to just bang on the light with his fist and the light would come back on. Already replaced one light housing, now neither of the two brake lights work (the third light, does, though)

SOURCE: Brakes lights on 2001 Volvo

if there are no brake lites, including the 3rd. ck fuses first. if fuse is ok. maybe ck brake switch down at the pedal, bad connection or bad switch. if any of the lites work, maybe bulbs or sockets. not sure if it has a brake switch relay.

I WANT TO CHANGE RELAY # 17 ON 2001 S60 VOLVO BECAUSE BOTH HEAD LIGHTS WHENT OUT

Make sure you're removing the right relay and use a flat screwdriver in a twisting motion at the base of the relay to get it started. Plug the new one in and test your lights with ignition on.

2001 volvo s60 failed accelerator pedal position sensor, p1633

This sounds like the ever familiar ABS modulator failing. However, VADIS doesn't list a OEM code with P1633 (it goes from 1632 to 1635). The 16xx codes normally relate to CAN bus or an individual controller. All ABS warning lights go through the ABS module, which is why you are seeing all three of those lit up.

I have a 2001 Volvo S40, my brake lights are not working. I change the lights bulbs and fuse and still don't have brake lights?

My 2001 S60 just had the same issue. The "check brake light" error message on the dash and the brake lights not illuminating ( the upper center glass brake light would). I found that both bulbs had failed which I replaced. The fuse was okay but still the error message was found on the dash when the brake peddle was pressed. I purchasing a dealer $30.00 brake light relay and the problem is fixed. However, there isn't a diagram anywhere that shows which relay was for the brake light relay. In my 2001 S60, the relay is in the trunk, beneath the driver side removable upholstered cover. The relay panel has ~ 10ea of the same relays and a few other odd sizes. There is a vertical column of relays on the left and right. I found the brake light relay is located between two other relays on the upper right column. It was difficult to reach due to a larger relay on it’s right.
