Don't know if this is the same problem, but the key for my 98 Camry has to be replaced every few years. You can verify whether or not this is your problem if you have a spare key that hasn't been used as much. If the spare key works, take it to a hardware store and get a couple of new keys made. I don't know why this happens, it just does.

I have a 1997 Toyota Camry Le. I need to make a copy of the car key. is that key electronic or just regular key. if the key can open the car door, will it turn the car on too? Thank you

the key is just a regular key and does not have a chip in long as someone has not had to change the door lock or key cylinder in the ignition because the part has failed then the same key should open the door and start the car....remember the car when new comes with a key code tag with the keys and 2 master keys and a valet key.....the difference in the keys are the master will open all doors and trunk and start the car and the valet will open the doors and start the car only....if the key is worn real bad it does cause problems and if you carry a lot of keys on your key ring over time it will wear out the ignition key cylinder....if you do not have the key code you can go to the deraler and they can cut you one by the code.....all you need to do is show them that you are the owner and the vin number......i hope that this info will help you and if you need any more info let me know and also you can do me a favor by letting me and fixya know if i was able to help you in anyway and a comment and a thumbs up would be appreciated......thanks and good luck and have a blessed day......

You need to reset the alarm by inserting the reset key(small plastic devise with visible contactors that should be with the keys) for a few seconds in the it's hole in the right-hand rear speaker. Open the boot look at the underside of the rear right-hand speaker to locate the hole.

97 Camry ignition key will not turn need to get to turn to ACC so I can push pin and remove cylinder

Try any other keys that you have and put them in both ways. Spraying the lock with blaster and smacking the lock with the key removed may free it up then try the key again. A locksmith will do something like it and Pick the lock. They usally get $80 or so to do the work and they come to you.

Cant turn key to start 1997 toyota camry. tried all keys to car. after hours of jiggling key it catches and turns ignition to start. Do I need to replace ignition or tumblers in switch. If so HOW

Yes you do need to charge the ignition barrel as it sounds as if the current one knakered, try going to the scrappy but be sure to get a barrel that they have the keys for also remember to keep your other keys for your car.

Best Wishes
