I've had problems of overheating previously where my car's thermostat would hit 140. I think I've fixed the issue, I've replaced the thermostat but it was still doing that and 2 hoses blew and needed to be replaced. I've had to consistently fill my radiator with 50/50 antifreeze on a daily basis to ensure it won't overheat, so far that seems to be keeping the peace.
But now as of 5 days ago, I'm experiencing these new issues of stalling. Upon taking my civic into my mechanic, his meter showed that there was a misfire in the 2nd cylinder a month prior and now all 4 are misfiring. He thought it was the head gasket at first. I had just recently replaced the spark plugs with NGK Platinums, new spark plug wires and a new distributor cap.
I've received many possible culprits to my problem consisting of possibly the Throttle Position Sensor, Fuel Filter/Injection, Distributor or a radiator cap. I'm financially strapped at the moment and only could afford the radiator cap which didn't solve anything, however my radiator is running on 80% water at the moment. I'm really at a loss and I feel like I've done what I could and I'm at my wits end. Please help my poor little Civic cheat death for a little longer.
whoa!! before going to that extreme, Unless you know for sure this is your problem,, there are other things that could cause that ,,, here, check this link,, its the best one I've found that fully explains what your experiencing, replacement of the heater core is a HUGE job and will drive you crazy!! check this site first ,, http://autos.yahoo.com/maintain/repairqa/fluids_heat_air_conditioning/ques020_3.html
it is a fuel delivery problem
possible air in the system that needs bleeding out
check for air leaks in the fuel supply system , loose filters , hose connections , blocked vent for the tank (evap )
best if you get it to an accredited diesel pump specialist shop as they would have more experience that a service center
Firstly, ensure you have the required 'mixture' of coolant/water (must have required coolant).
Second, I would recommend you re-test all the cooling system sensors again (make sure they're within specifications), in case a new one is faulty.
Third, ensure the new thermostat was of the correct temp setting (they all differ), so that it opens at the required time. Most cooling systems operate within 90 - 100degC.
Fourth, make sure the radiator (and associated hoses) aren't blocked.
If your temp gauge is reading higher than normal, but NOT in the danger zone...then this can be considered normal (especially if you've replaced with new components) and nothing to be concerned about.
However, if the temp gauge IS in the danger zone....then this suggests the coolant is not flowing through the cooling system properly.
If all above components test ok, then it's possible your water pump may not be pumping enough volume.
hi, most of the time when these lights come on, its because of some sort of sensorfailure. if you are not experiencing any noises or tapping in the engine compartment, this is only a failed sensor. you will have to get it diagnosed by the computer to know what specific sensor it may be. i suspect maybe a O2 sensor or egrvalve. this is minor but, you Will need to get this repaired if possible.
