Its hard to start. once running, and hot, it runs and idles ok but smokes (blue) heavily. Checked the fuel pump - good, checked fuel at the injectors - good. I unplugged 1 of the injector connections and.....nothing changed. Unplugged the other, it died.

A code 51 is an injector code. It could be a broken wire at the injector (typically very hard to diagnose because they break right at the injector body)......but more than likely it is indicating a broken wire to the TPS. Check the TPS wires very closely for signs of cuts or bare spots. I'd rule out the TPS before moving onto the injector.

It could also indicate a weak fuel pump (unfortunately a very common problem). Check the fuel pressure. It should manitain 39 psi throughout the RPM tange.....including under a load and when hot, so be sure to test it with the machine thoroughly warmed up.

SOURCE: will not start after it stalls untill about 5-10 minutes

Your problem is most likey your intake gasket. They have a problems on the SOHC engines where the intake gasket shifts & starts leaking vacuum at the #1 intake runner causing a missfire on Cylinder #1.While the engine is Idling buy some throttle plate cleaner & spray throttle cleaner down at the #1 Intake runner where the intake meets the head.If engine stalls or runs rougher that's your problem.I have replaced dozens of those gaskets for tha reason!! They have a beter design gasket through saturn parts. It has a coating on it to prevent reoccurance. Also you should check you Coolant Temp Sensor,if it's ceramic it's most likely bad.Replacement is brass from saturn.Good Luck

87 ford ranger 2.3 engine at idle runs ruff. Taking off it bogs down once rpm 's are up runs smooth allso blows black smoke now and then .don't smell like oil burning looks like soot

Sounds as if the engine is running rich ( over fueled ). There are many reasons for this issue. I'm suspecting the vehicle is fuel injected? You can check for a leaky fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail and also a sticky/stuck EGR valve that can cause this problem. These are the quickest and easiest checks to do first. IF all ok, you may require the use of a scan tool to check sensors/codes for proper operation and look at any available data stream that may point you in the right direction

Pontiac Codes P0300 and P0133 when cold won't start unless you punch the gas

White smoke in the exhaust is a sign of water in the engine. What is the level of the radiator? You may need a new head gasket or heads.

99 ford ranger, idles rough till it warms up,then runs good. Hard to start after it gets hot, it acts as if it is starved for fuel. Once it does crank it runs fine.

First thought: Check the idle air control valve, or whatever its Ford equivalent is. Sometimes these start to stick and cause the rough early idle that smooths out later.

Why is my cadillac 4.5 engine smoking

What color smoke ? Blue = oil burning , black = too much fuel (rich) white = coolant - blown head gasket ,cracked head or block . White also could be caused fuel running through the engine , no combustion !

Idle is high at start - 1800 rpm. Seems like excessive white smoke from exhaust. Put into reverse and back out of driveway it has a regular shudder (bump bump bump) but not hard metal grinding sound.....

white smoke out of the exhaust would be a sign that it is burning coolant... if it goes away after it warms up, it could just be condensation inside the exhaust pipe. 1800 rpm is a very high idle, maybe have your IAC motor on the throttle body checked... check engine light? if so have the code read at your local auto zone.

2003 Ford Ranger starts hard.

That sounds like it could be one of many things. Have you ever given the truck a tune up? I suggest the following things first.

New Air Filter
New Spark Plugs
New Plug Wires
Oil Change (and filter)

These are the basic necessities of an engine. Having a dirty air filter, or plugs that are firing weak can surely cause this problem. Try giving the truck a good old tune up and see how it starts then.
