Question about 1997 Ford Taurus

97 Ford Taurus will not start after oil light came on.

I have a 97 Ford Taurus Wagon 3.0L OHC. I was driving home from work the other day and the oil light came on. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil. It was on the low end so I filled it up to just below the full mark. I continued driving and the oil light stayed on. About a minute later the engine shut down. No grinding, knocking or any other kind of noise. Must have been a safety feature. The car will not start now. I turn the key and hear "click" and that’s it.

What would most likely be the cause? The oil pressure sensor or the oil pump? Thanks for any help.

No. All you hear is a single click sound.

Ok please make sure you have 12v at the battery, if you do legts move to the starter, check for proper operation, check all fuse and relays, check to make sure the head is blown, to do this look at the engine dipstick, check for a brownist mixture

Cannot diagnose or run temp. Sealer for what i believe is head blown because car wont start it cranks but sputters and kills battery?

Sounds like head gasket again, but may be more serious this time. Overheating is not something to take lightly.

Pull plugs. crank. Water come out of cylinders? Head gasket. Possible cracked block or head this time, too. I'd be looking at a replacement engine.

2000 ford taurus no ignition power

In the diagram, the top wires are voltage to ignition switch, hot all the time, use a test lite to check for voltage, you can see the wire colors. The bottom wires go hot with key in the proper position, check them for voltage, also. I started to trouble shoot your power windows, figuring if you fix one component, it may fix the others. I guess it's 6 of one or 1/2 dozen of another. Several ways to troubleshoot.
Any applicable trouble codes?

Where is the commen oil leak on a 97 ford taurus

Maybe, maybe not, It's most likely a bad rear seal or worn main bearings but check the oil filter just to be safe. Sometimes things go wrong when changing the oil filter that can cause similar symptoms.
1) old gasket left behind.
2) cross threaded filter.
3) loose filter.
4) damage gasket or defective new filter.

1996 Ford Taurus LX wagon. 3.0L 24v Duratec. Stalled leaving red light then no power at all. Towed home. Starter tests passed at home by manually putting power from B+ to 's' clip on starter. Starter also...

I would look at the positive cable at the battery and at the starter. Pull the cabel off and a continuity test to see if the wire has a internal break if the wire gets even a pinhole it can build corrosion on the inside of the wire and when a current is put through it it seperates (from the resistance and arc from corrosion) causing the wire to seperate internaly.

Hope this will get you started!

Replace a serpentine belt on a 97 ford taurus

use a 15mm box wrench on the nut retaining the tensioner pulley to pry the tensioner 'arm' against the spring to release belt. note belt routing on decal under hood,or make a sketch,to aid in replacement.
on OHV engine rotate clockwise
on OHC rotate counter clockwise
be sure belt is completely seated on pulleys

Taurus SE/Wagon 1998. Oil light stays on, has a clanking in the engine while driving down highway. Smoke started coming out of the exhaust. My husband went online to check and see what he thought might be...

yes this may be the problem i would recomend changing the oil sending unit first and if this does not fix it replace the oil pump and you should not drive it with no oil pressure it can burn up the bearings in the motor

97 Taurus Belt tensioner does not lossen the belt

There should be a square big enough to fit a 3/8" drive ratchet into on the tensioner (should be closest to the pulley), insert the ratchet into that square, then try turning the tensioner, this should release the pressure on the serpentine belt. Hope this helps.
