Do you have your owners manual generally in your glove box? I believe it will tell you in there. Did you look under the hood on the right hand side near the fender well? Or under the seats?

I have a 2001 ford explorer, how can I get my spare tire from under my vehicle

The spare tire assembly lowers using the crank for the scissor jack. If the mechanism has jammed, use penetrating oil on the mechanism.

I cant get my spare tire down from my 2006 GMC Sierra. I think the mechanism might be stripped.

The spare tire support cable has an additional safety mechanism prevents the spare tire from falling onto the road should the cable break. This mechanism often gets filled up with road grit and won't release properly when you try and lower the spare. If your spare comes down a few inches then won't go any further then this is your problem. There should be some tin brackets included with your jack that are supposed to hold the spare tire up slightly off of the ground to allow some slack in the cable which usually [but not always] will allow the stuck mechanism to come loose. There is a more detailed description of this procedure in the owners manual. IF the spare won't move at all or the mechanism just won't release no matter what you do then you may have to have the entire spare support mechanism replaced.

Where is the spare tire on a 97 Toyota tacoma?

It is under the truck bed. Look underneath from the tailgate and you should be able to see it. Some of them are encased in plastic these days to protect the spare from debris from the road.

I believe on the earlier Tacomas there should be a notch (maybe between the bottom of the tailgate and the bumper) for the tire iron to go into to access a nut to lower the spare tire

The cable for the spare tire on my 2006 1500 works fine (it's all the way down) but the retainer did not lower at all so I cannot pick up the spare tire. Can anyone help? Thanks

  1. Rotate the hoist shaft counterclockwise until approximately 15 cm (6 in) of cable (1) is exposed.
  2. While holding the latch pin (3), fully depress the latch button (2) and release the secondary latch from the hoist assembly. Some side-to-side and/or up-and-down movement may be necessary to disengage the latch mechanism.
  3. Continue rotating the hoist shaft counterclockwise in order to lower the hoist the rest of the way.
  4. If this does not release the secondary latch, the spare tire hoist will need to be replaced. See the following procedure.
Important: If the spare tire hoist has been fully raised without a spare tire in place, the secondary latch mechanism may have become engaged. If this has occurred the hoist will not lower and the following steps will need to be followed:

I need to take down the spare tire

along with the jack and the tire iron, there should be another metal rod that will have sort of a square, hex, or star shape on one end (this may also be part of the tire iron). with the trunk open, look along the top edge of the bumper and you should see a hole that you insert the rod into and then crank it to lower the tire out from under the car

Owners manual has been stolen :( need to locate the spare tire! HELP!!!

The spare tire will be under your car. Along with the jack and tire iron, there should be a rod that you slide into a hole on the top of your bumper with the hatch open. This rod lowers your spare tire from under your car

hello
i have a 1992 and im sure this would be the same
To remove the spare tire:
1. Open both of the rear doors. Remove the
access cover from the rubber strip found
behind the left door. Insert tapered end of
lug wrench or tip of jack handle through the
access hole. Turn counterclockwise until the
cable extends enough to allow the spare tire
to be pulled rearward from under the
vehicle.
2. Slide the spare tire to the rear and remove
the retainer from the wheel.
3. To stow the cable/retainer with spare
removed, turn jack handle wrench clockwise
until slack is removed.

dont be afraid to crank on it real hard sometimes they stick.
good luck paul
