Fuelpump problems in my 2003 oldsmobile alero

I have replaced my fuelpump three times and its still doing the samething. the fuelpump doesnt come on all the time. sometimes it takes me 30 mins. to start my car. sometimes when im driving down the road it will shut off but i will still have all my power in the car then i will have to wait for the fuelpump to kick on. it never has the check engine light. i have had it to the car shop to fix it and they say theres nothing wrong with it. now its sitting in another town on the side of the road cause it wont start.

I was reading another comment about Aleros and thought you might try this. You have an antitheft system that kills the fuel pump. The directions are in your owners manual. What I remember is to turn on the ignition and leave it on for 10 minutes. Now whether you turn the car to start at this point or go back to "off" and then start is the second way. I would try turning the key to start without shutting it off (from the 10 minute cycle). This is suppose to reset the antitheft and you should observe whether the antitheft light is blinking.

If this works for you then you have problems in the antitheft circuit. This would include keys, keyswitch reader, connecting wires and antitheft box. Best of Luck

If you know the relay is not sending power through it your problem is before the relay. You have not mentioned any blown fuses and you are checking the fuses each incident? There was a case of the fuel guage causing a short which tripped the relay and the fuse. But your fuse is OK?

By this time you have checked the wire from the pump relay to the pump and it has passed a wiggle test. From the relay the power is dead. The power side of the relay has power?

As I mentioned the antitheft kills power to the relay. So what other systems can kill the power only to the relay? The loss of oil pressure, a loose crankshaft sensor, the computer box, the ignition system and keychip sensor and inertia sensor. Most of these components are in the drivers cabin or forward.

You said you have replaced the fuelpump 3 times. Were the old pumps tested or did this problem burn up 3 pumps?

And you know for a fact that it is the fuel pump that is not working? I am just trying to get an idea of what is going on.

Ok and you know that your pump will only work for a few seconds when you initially turn the key on to start it then shut off as it only runs to prime the injectors to start then shuts back down until you start to run.

Where is the fuelpump in a 2001 olds alero

There should be a couple bolts holding the
tank straps on.

Not really a driveway job, better on a lift

There are very few if any vehicles, that ever
have access from the trunk or under the rear seat

I'm not aware of any GM Vehicles that ever had that

The water pump is leaking in my 2003 Oldsmobile alero

If your water pump is leaking, then it will have to be replaced. This is not a job for the beginner as you will have to rmove the timing chain cover, harmonic balancer and timing chain. If you tackle this job your self make sure you mark your valve gears, crank and replace the chain exactly the way you removed it or your timing will be off.

2003 Alero dash lights out temporarily

Failure of the bcm is therefore the result of the problem, not the problem. It is not written in stone that the bcm has to be mounted where it is. If it's getting wet, move it or make some sort of shield to prevent it from getting wet. AND, have the water leak looked at...Often it takes a lot of time to get leaks resolved, as water travels before dripping and many times it takes three or more attempts before it is resolved. BCM can't wait that long before failing again.

There is an electrical fault inherent within. Have you tried a scan?

I recommend a scan this time around after replacing the fuel pump.

2003 alero dash light won't shut off

Sounds like either a bad ignition switch or a back feeding circuit. Try unplugging the ignition switch to see if the lights go out. If they do, replace the switch. If they don't, post to tell me.
