Unless I am mistaken and your Lexus dealer can tell you all you have to do is call them but the differential and transfer oils should be synthetic and as such never need to be changed

Maintenance Minder 6 Scheduled Maintenance
Recommended service for your 2006 Honda Ridgeline:

Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid: Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of mechanical (shear) stress to fluid or frequently fully loaded. This requires differential fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles (12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).

Service four wheel drive light is on, what does that mean?

Your transmission/transfer case needs to be flushed and the fluid replaced along with any needed screens or filters that are recommended by GM.
Your owners manual should have info on the manufacturers reccomendations.

How many miles for a tune up 2005 chevy trailblazer

Most of the car dealers recommend to perform Maintenance services scheduled at 30K, 50K, 90K and so on.
At 30K they mostly inspect all the systems, and replace fuel filter.
At 60K they inspect systems and flush must of the fluids, transmission oil and filter, coolant, brake fluid, differential and transfer case fluid, and replace the air filter. Some replace the spark plus at 60K some at 100K.
At 90K all timing belts are replaced, and the status of the timing chain checked. A deviation of more than 5 degree means, there it is the time ayes on the timing chain.
At the Owners manual for 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer recommend:
Inspect all the systems at 25K, and replace fuel filter.
Replace engine air cleaner filter, automatic transmission fluid, automatic transfer case fluid every 50K.
Replace spark plugs every 100K.
Maintenance Services for your car are scheduled at 25K, 50K, 75K,100K and so on. All are tune ups but they are not the same.
The only concern for GM is the GM Dex-Cool antifreeze. There are some complaints regarding this product. I recommend to flush the cooling system every 50K to 60K.

The technician at the dealer is recommending a "4X4 service" on my 2001 Ford Explorer. At $280 for the service, I need to know what this is. Is it a recommended scheduled maintenance? Or more as needed...

I worked with Ford for many years as Service Manager and Parts and Service Director. Do not ever be afraid to ask your service writer what a service pertains to. The service he is recommending is basically draining the fluid out of the transfer case and refilling it. Wow 280.00 thats a little steep unless the have an added sevice to that, That I am not aware of. However yes anything in your vehicle that has fluid in it needs to be seviced as all petroleum based fluids will not last forever and will get viscosity break down. When this occurs you will have failure in the part that has fluid. Flushing your fluids is the life of your vehicle but can also run into big money, I believe in sitting down and figuring out a schedule that best fits your budget. Fluids in your vehicle include... Transmission, power steering, coolant, injector service, front differential service, tranfer case service, rear differential service and you can also service the fluid in the master Cylinder, but again this can be expensive to do all this thats why on my own Ford I break them down into different schedules and times that I have them serviced. I really hoped this helped and please make sure you ask them what the sevice consist of . If it is simply draining the fluid and replacing it then that is way to much money. Roger

Transfer and Differential oil change for RX300

your front wheel drive rx300 doesnt use gear oil, the differential is lubricated internally by transmission fluid. the trans fluid is only reccomended if its dirty. if its a dark brownish red thats normal. or if its pinkish red then its new. if its black or yellow then time to flush it out. if you decide to change the trans fluid I believe the spec is 3qts. check it with the engine running and cold. thats the most accurate way to check it.

Buying 2001 RX300 65,000 miles extra clean

If you aren't mechanical, have someone who is check the car out. Specifically, the transmission fluid for color and smell (On toyota's they are to be changed every 30K miles, few drivers do this), and pull the spark plugs to see if they all appear relatively clean (a burnt looking plug indicates an engine problem). Ask to see the maintenance records. Oil should be changed every 3-4,000 miles if regular oil, 8-10,000 if synthetic.

The next BIG thing regarding maintenance is timing belt and water pump at 90,000 miles. Expect 500-700 for this, not at the lexus dealer. Probably double at the lexus dealer.

I would be interested under 12,000. Very interested under 10,000.

FYI, I'm driving a 95 ES300 with 170,000 miles and it runs like a top. These cars require very little in the way of repair if they are maintained. My goal is 300,000 just to see if it can be done. Unfortunately, I drive a total of 1,000 miles a month these days. So it will be a while. On the interior, you can have very nice new leather seats installed if the rest of the interior is in reasonable shape. Cost around $1,000 or a little less.

Good luck!!
