Question about 1997 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

My '97 Pontiac Bonneville se makes a single click noise when I try to start it. This does not happen all the time and sometimes it takes turning the key two or more times to get it to start. Sometimes it turns right over.

Is there a bearing or bushing on the shaft that the left axle slides onto on a 1999 Bonneville se?

i have been fooled by this one way to many times. when a wheel bearing or hub assesembly is making noise, it will sound like it is comming from the other side. i do not know why this is. but one test will prove if and which one. when growling noise occurs, notice, when turning left or right, does noise get louder and quieter as you turn? if so then it is wheel bearing. when turning left the right side will make more noise. when turning right the left side will make more noise. if always the same then, tires or transmission need addressing. the cv axle does not make a growling noise, unless front wheel drive car does not move, it makes a clicking or poping noise. sorry but at least you dont have to replace other axle

Alarm prevents 97 bonneville from starting

No clicks at all? Does it even crank over? Maybe you blew the fuse going to switch. Check all connections where the + side of the battery go to. Is there something corroded? Did you clean the terminals good when you put the battery in? Sometimes things will work that draw a light load, but when you try to crank it over it will lose connection. That is all the things I would try.

My 97 Bonneveille SE shuts off while driving out of no where with no type of warning signs... Once the car shuts off I can always start it right back up and drive... What could this be?... Sometimes after...

I have a 97 bonneville that had the same symptoms.....After suspecting many things relating to the fuel system and many leaky vacuum hoses the part that solved my problem for good was the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. It is about a $40. part and is fairly easy to replace....maybe this might work for your problem as well. good luck

Bonneville wont start

Check your battery cables,, they are probably loose or corroded. Side mount batteries that hold multiple cables have this problem that occurs over an extended period of time. Cleaning the connections and retightening the hold down bolt may fix it. Sometimes a 3/8 bolt and a washer with a nut can be used to get
a more positive holding force to keep the cable tight.
