Problem could be gas cap not on tight or leaking.or it could be the purge control solenoid inoperative.the dealership has to check the emission control system.

When i make a complete stop the cart takes a while to accelerate?

Millions of cars have that issue

The Evap System, will most easily be diagnosed &
your Gross Leak resolved,if you have a repair shop
with an EVAP Smoke Machine put on that system

The Gas Cap would be a PO442 (small leak) The way you
remember is, from the Hurst Olds 442, from the 1960's

The smoke test will blow some out the place of the leak,
like a rotted hose or broken evap valve.

Slow Acceleration---you work on after all check light issues
are resolved such as the evap leak.

Code P1440 on my 2001 Impala

there is not a code P1440 on the 01 impala, with either the 3.8L or 3.4L V6 engines. there is a code P1441 for both it is the EVAP system flow during system test which is most likly a bad seal on the gas cap.

Manufactures code p1440 emissions

The P1440 code is for a small EVAP leak. Your gas cap being loose is a common EVAP problem. If not that, the EVAP canister is also well known for developing small cracks.

Codigo p1440

EVAP System Vent Circuit Malfunction

This diagnosis detects leaks in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) purge line using of vapor pressure in the fuel tank. The EVAP canister vent control valve is closed to shut the EVAP purge line. The vacuum cut valve bypass valve will then be opened to clear the line between the fuel tank and the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve. The EVAP control system pressure sensor can now monitor the pressure inside the fuel tank. If pressure increases, the Engine Control Module (ECM) will check for leaks in the line between the vacuum cut valve and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve.

Possible causes
- Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Leak is in line between intake manifold and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve
- Foreign matter caught in EVAP canister vent control valve
- EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks
- EVAP purge line (pipe and rubber tube) leaks
- EVAP purge line rubber tube bent
- Blocked or bent rubber tube to EVAP control system pressure sensor
- Loose or disconnected rubber tube
- EVAP canister vent control valve and the circuit
- O-ring of EVAP canister vent control valve is missing or damaged
- EVAP canister is saturated with water
- EVAP control system pressure sensor
- Absolute pressure sensor

Possible solution
- Loose fuel filler cap
- Leaking fuel filler cap

Code p1440 which sensor do I need the front or the rear?

A p1440 DTC indicates that a small leak has been detected in your EVAP system. Small cracks in the EVAP canister are not uncommon.

Check your EVAP canister for leaks and replace it if necessary. Be careful not to damage the vent control valve when you remove the canister, or you will have to replace that too.

Since your description did not state the make, model or year of your vehicle, I can not be any more specific.

God bless and good luck.

according to info i have it is p1440 purge valve stuck open. given that there are several, you will need to track down which one. i would guess that it would be one near the evap canister.
