possibly but it indicates that the wire from the switch to the coil is broken--may be a problem resistor to drop the voltage from 12 dc to7.5 dc for the coil
Has the start circuit been bypassed? Get access to the ignition key wires at the plug where the key goes in, then remove and replace 1 wire at a time, starting and stopping with the key each time in between each wire change, once it shuts off correctly, you have identified which wire (circuit) is causing the problem. Trace that wire to make sure its not grounded where it should not be, and you may solve the problem.
Check the small wires coming off the altenater. Once the engine starts, the car get's power from the altenater. These wires are bad about breaking into, (on all vehicles) but the insulation stays unbroken. The wire makes contact enough to run, but the feul pump gets hot and shuts down. Or the wire looses contact and shorts out. check the wires for a limp, week section and splice where broken.
ignition switch is bad it sounds like. you have to pull steering wheelthere is usaully a switch inside you need to push in while you turnkey to pull cylender out
Hi :) That is normal. When you first turn on the key the prime relay kicks in for the gas pump then shuts off. Once you start the engine the fuel pump is restarted buildes pressure as the engine needs it. When you shut the key off the pump shuts down. You could check the fuel pump relay which is different then the prime relay or check the spark module on the distributor housing. And the wire that go to all control module have a bad habbit of cracking and turning green with corrosion.
It could be a cam or crank sensor. Have someone plug a OBD II reader in and pull all the codes.
That will give you some idea.
Please let me know what you find.
this is a safety feature so that someone cant just run up to your car, turn the engine off and yank the key out. Usually there are 2 way to remove the key..
1.) There is a switch under the ignition or thereabout which you need to hold down as you shut the engine off and pull the key out. After which you can release the switch..
2.) turn the engine off as well as the ignition (all the dash lights go off) rock the stearing left and right while you pull the key out. This locks the stearing and releases the key.
