I have a 1999 Lexus ES 300 with the same problem

My car will start only if I depress the gas pedal, and when you release it the car shuts off. Where is the Idle sensor on this vehicle also?

Its located under the throttle body. It's the metal piece right after the black tubing from the air filter assembly. Also has a connector and 3 coolant lines running to it.

If check engine light goes off then there is a trouble code stored. You'll need to retrieve the code w/ a scan tool and follow the proper diagnosis.

I have a Lexus RX300 1999 model and have this recent problem. engine running normally but gear gets stuck in Parking mode and won't shift. had to depress the emergency button on the gear shift and

Hi there,

Some automatic vehicles rely on the brake switch (mounted on brake pedal) to be activated by depressing brake pedal. This signal then operates a relay and switch, to release the gear lever.

Firstly, I would check the brake pedal switch (are your brake lights working?).

If brake switch is confirmed OK, then inspect the relay (and related circuit components) of the gear release switch.

Removed battery post now car won't stay started how do I fix it 2003 es 300

All you need to do is hold your foot on the gas pedal to start and hold to keep engine running, hold gas pedal for about 3 minutes then let idle, computer needs to relearn the idle speed thats why it stalls out, hope this helps,

I have a 1990 Lexus 250 ES. Brake lights inop.

check the brake pedal switch by connecting a test light to it and ground.

When the pedal depresses you might hear a click or see the button depress.

The test light should light or not light changing as you press and release the pedal.

Another way to do this is to change the brake pedal switch and see if it works.

I hope this helps.
