If it's getting fuel & getting fire, next is timing and or compression. Pull distributor cap off & make sure rotor is turning. You got the carburetor version, or fuel injected?

Pull the plugs and see what they look like, and look for gas soaked, or oil soaked, carbon etc & let us know what you see.

That crank pulley bolt is right hand thread, but very tight. The easist way to loosen the bolt is with a good impact wrench. Be sure to properly torque the bolt when you put it back together.

Using starting fluid eliminates the fuel system for the most part.
So that means it does not have enough spark at the plugs, or not enough compression.
You may need to go back and recheck all three components.

My son has a 89 Accord lx. It will turn over, but won't start. It did the same thing a week ago, wouldn't start for 2 days, then started and ran ok. Now the problem has returned. It has fuel injection.

check the distibutor and when it wont start put a screwdriver int he sparkplug wire and move it close but not touching the valve cover and see what kind of spark you get if its yellow replace the wires if no spark the replace the ignition coil its about $100 but it can cause intemittent problems and then fail completley

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

My honda accord 1996 lx won't start

Your starter bendix isnt engaging, if your replace your starter your problem should go away. The rappid ( firing ) you are hearing is the starter spinning but the bendix isnt moving out and engaging the flywheel.

Make sure the spark plug is touching a metal spot on the engine. It has to be grounded to spark. Also check to see if you are getting fuel.
