2004 dodge ram overheating

2004 dodge ram 4.7 v-8 overheating. Changed thermostat and had fluid flushed. Still running hot. Took it to a shop and was told to put a 185 degree t-stat in and look for a bigger radiator. They dont make a 185 degree t-stat jus 195 degree. Seems to get hotter on the freeway. Any suggestions

It could be several things so check the engine timing & advance mechanism & the cooling system would benefit from having a reverse flush & clean out the radiator core!
There could also be a crack in the head or block opening up when it gets warm or the head may be warped or its gasket is leaking
Try retensioning the head as it may seal gakset a little better
its a process of elimination!

Do the radiator fans turn when engine hot? Try turning them when engine is off and cold; they should spin freely. Could be bad solid state relay that controls them. Try blowing the debris out of the radiator fins from the inside of the engine compartment.

2004 dodge ram overheating??

Hi,
Engine overheating?
1. Coolant level at cold
2. Coolant leak check for loss of, during "not hot" running condition. (water pump, hoses)
3. Replace the thermostat. It's inexpensive and easy enough to do.

Hope this helps... Good luck!

Overheating/Loss of power

Unless water pump bearing is loose or noisy or the pump is leaking, that's not your problem. Have the system flushed. Thermostat is also likely not the problem but with repeated overheats or near-overheats it will become unreliable so change it as a precaution.

2004 dodge ram 1500 overheating on the freeway

The 2002- 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 L. has a single core radiator with flat fins that become easily plugged with scale and other stuff floating around in your motors cooling system. Since these fins are so small about .040 of an inch good luck flushing out any clogged particles by doing a flush. Many of the online part stores have replacement radiators for less than $120.00 (Rock Auto, for example). Replace the radiator with a new unit. Make sure to flush the engine block and heater core before connecting back to new radiator. I completed this job over the past weekend in less than 3.0 hours start to finish. Have less than $220.00 in all hoses, Thermostat, Radiator and new coolant.

My 2004 intrepid is running hot and stalling at stops v6/3.5 ltr.

It all depends. Your car will stall due to overheating. The cheapest way to find out, replace the thermostat. Pay attention to the directions on installation so you do not end up installing it upside down.

After doing this....see how your vehicle runs. If it still runs hot, then your pump may be the culprit.

No heat

You probably just need to backflush your heater core. You can use a hose to flush it back and then forward. You'll be surprised at how much sludge and gunk will come out.

Heater not blowing hot but engine not overheating

The coolant thermostat needs replaced or you need a coolant flush. Heater cores (in the dashboard) often clog and stop warm coolant from circulating into the heater. A coolant flush would cure this. Flushes usually run from 70 to 90 dollars to have done at a service shop.

Overheating

If it runs cool when you are moving the fan clutch is probably weak. If it overheats when moving down the road you more than likely have a radiator problem. Make sure the fins on the radiator and clear from debris for max cooling system efficiency.
