Where is the transmission tag id located

for that generation of Ford/Lincoln vehicle (1998-2004)

it's a E40D / 4R100 automatic transmission

so you can look for those letters /numbers on the housing just above the trans pan

but 2 sites give you a better & easier ID-ing of the transmission by counting the bolts and looking at the shape of the transmission pan
How to Identify Ford Automatic Transmissions eHow

another site has a trans type on the door tag: if it's "E", then you got that the type of trans i mentioned above

To check fluid transmission lincoln navigator

Can anyone specify a year here? Seems each year has a different type and location for its drain/fill and or check valve. I have an 07 Navigator and there is NO drain plug of ANY kind on the pan. There is one plug on passenger side of tranny, in the rear, just above the pan. But its too high to be a drain and since fluid comes pouring out, I doubt its a check valve either. I guess its a fill. Anyone know for sure?

How to fix a prndl problem on my Lincoln navigator

The transmission in your Navigator is a ZF 6-speed(german transmission company) and the PRNDL sensor is internal. The transmission should not have to be removed to service the part , but the valve body of the transmission will need to be and this is not a job for a novice. The truck will need to be towed to a dealer or capable repair shop and have the switch diagnosed and a repair preformed.Good Luck!

I have a 2004 lincoln aviator that has been giving me lots of problems, however my current problem has something to do with my transmission...I THINK! I took it to a mechanic and he told me it was probably...

When the engine is running the onboard computer should show the "check engine" light for any recorded problems including the transmission.

The Solenoids were a possibility. There is also a major part called a Transfer case. It is like a second transmission. It connects power to the drive wheels. There are Vacuum switches in some models and Electric in others. If the Vacuum switch (SERVO) is not kicking into gear the engine will spin and the wheels will not. It is something to check.

Also your Lincoln may still be covered by a 6 Year, 70,000Mile Powertrain Warranty. It depends when the vehicle was bought new and the Warranty should transfer to a second owner. Its a Perk for buying Lincoln. A call to a Lincoln Dealer with your Vin# will tell, and you can also ask if there are any Service bulletins about your problem.

I hope my Reply is helpful to you.

2005 lincoln navigator transmission slipping. Changed the filter and oil got better for a little while now it gets worse intermittently.

Look at the fluid and smell it. If it is not pink and has a burned or bad odor the clutches are burned up. In any event you will need to have a transmission specialist check the transmission. Please do some research for your area. Talk to friends etc. and do your best to find an honest repair center. Transmission repair centers have a huge dissatisfaction record across the USA. Try to find one that has a good record. Check the BBB in your area.

2005 Lincoln Navigator. Message says to Check

Most likely the problem you are experiencing with the park assist is a fault in one of the sensors mounted in the rear bumper. I would not consider it to be a major fix, however there will be a few hours labor involved as the bumper cover needs to be removed to replace the sensors.
