Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix

Open Question

I have a 98 grand prix with auto air and dual climate control. I can not change the air flow through the vents. I have located the vacuum solenoid manifold under the dash that appears to control the flow of vacuum. I ran a test light to each lead that shows power for different air flow modes. How do i test that part? am i looking in the right direction or should i be looking somewhere else for the problem

SOURCE: i need to locate the map sensor on my 98 grand

Your engine doesn't use a MAP sensor (Manifold absolute pressure), it uses a MAF sensor (Mass Airflow), they both provide the same information about engine load but in a diff way. here is a picture of your sensor.

If you take the control assembly out of the dash and look behind it, the connector has a black wire in position D7 (little letters and numbers are printed on the connector). This wire will have a connector on it, pull this connector apart and your display will now be in *F

OK, sounds like the vacuum motor system is either disconnected behind the dash, or the vacuum control for the door inside the dash is broken, somehow.

need to take dash and climate controls off to see which it is.

Good luck.

I have a 1997 Pontiac Gran Prix and the air conditioner is full blast on the passenger side and on the drivers side is hot air?

I think these cars have dual climate control. Basically, the driver and passenger can set their own climate. Some like it hotter than others, is the thinking. If this is the case, you need a new climate control module. If not, I am at a complete loss.

Good luck!

Heater/ac door actuator isnt workin right. air coming out of bottom and top vent but not from the face vents. keep switchin control to switch vents. only goes to bottom and to the windshield vents.

Sounds like either the computer that controls the auto climate control has gone out or you could have a vacuum leak. I would definitely check the vacuum leak first. I took my 98 Lesabre to a repair shop several years ago for the same problem. When I picked it up they told me my computer was out and it would cost around $600 to fix. As an alternative, they had unhooked and rerouoted vacuum lines, breaking a tube off the controls under the right side of the dash. They told me that they would have to remove my glove box each spring and fall and reconnect the vacuum lines to change the airflow from floor to dash and vise versa. My fix was to run the lines under the dash just beneath the ash tray and connect shut off valves to the vacuum lines. Now when I need to use the AC I can change the flow of the vacuum by simply turning these two valves so that the flow changes from floor to dash or back. I know this is pretty jack leg but the damage had been done and this has actually worked pretty good.

start by inspecting your monovalve(located behind battery in engine compartment. The diaphragm is probably torn- you need to remove the 4 retaining screw off the lid and pull out the solenoid. on is the diaphragm. when it is torn hot water enters your heater core all the time
