Cranks slow,,, have the battery checked. It may have a bad cell or 2.
Also you may have wire with corrosion, which will limt the amount of current/amperage to the starter,,,,,, which may in-turn prematurely burn out the starter.

I have an 02 pt cruiser and ive had a problem with the car starting for the past year or so it. turns out that it has something to do with the starter or its wiring because if i tap a few hard knocks

Its possible you have a defective starter, but odds are its a connection problem. Have you checked the ground cable and do you have power at all of the connections on the solenoid when it won't crank ?

What causes hard starting?

If the engine cranks but does not start at first try, I would check the fuel pressure.
If the engine cranks slowly or not evenly, I would check voltage at the battery and the starter.

My 2000 528i will not crank intermittenly

Possible faulty ignition switch. common problem on ALL bmw's.

You need to check you are getting power at the crank wire when you try to crank the engine. Also check that the crank signal (12v) is also getting to the starter (could be dodgy wire between ignition and starter).

98 sunfire with starting problem, only has 89000 kms, changed battery, had starter checked, only seems to have a problem when car has sat for more than 3 hrs

This could indicate a weak fuel pump or clogged pump strainer. I would start by replacing the fuel filter since this should be done every two years. The fuel pressure bleeds off after some time so the pump has to try to build the pressure back up on a cold start. This is the cheapest and easiest fix to try first.

Something is running my new battery down while I am driving. After the car shut down it won't crank until I get a boost off

Jump starting is very hard on a car. Better to fix.
Charge the battery.
Put a voltmeter across the battery. (meter is $3 at Harbor Freight)
It should read over 12 volts.
When you try to crank it should drop to 10.
If it drops below that, starter or battery is bad.
If it comes back up to 12 when you stop, it is the starter.
If it does not come back up, the battery is bad.

Then when you rev the engine, it should go over 13.5.
If it does not, then alternator bad, or dirty terminals, loose ground, loose belt, or something with charging circuit.
More rare is possibility of a short, but that would likely smoke, flicker, or show melted insulation.

I have a 98 concorde day after fixing the replacing the radiator fan and filling up the tank with regular, it won't start on the first crank, then it fires up on the second. it will, however,...

It's possible that the battery may have a low charge, possibly from leaving a light on or something while you were working on your car. It can also be a sign that your starter may be going bad. You should first have the battery tested to make sure it's charged and that the cold cranking amps are enough to start your car as your battery will loose the cold cranking amps it can produce with age. If it's not the battery and assuming you don't have a check engine light on, it's more than likely going to be your starter at that point. I hope this helps and please vote.

Can't get check engine light off

Take your car to Auto Zone and have then run a FREE SCAN to your computer in your car. If something comes up that is wrong they will tell you what is needed. If nothing comes up have them clear the codes from your cars computer

Engine will not start, start cranks slow and then stops.

If the car cranks then the starter is good. There could be something wrong with a sensor. Or possibly even a fuel issue like the fuel pump. Someone with the appropriate diagnostic tools would need to look at it.
