Valve is not closing properly in the hydraulics. this will cause a jump. could be the hydraulic oil is weak or has become contaminated, ie condensation is in the oil, or the seal is damaged.

Check your wheelbearings for play and your tierod ends for play,I'm sure one of these two are at fault.

Your brake rotors are warped. The warped rotors are transmitting their side to side movement, to your steering wheel, when you apply the brakes. Have the rotors checked to see which one(s) is/are warped and have them replaced.

I don't have any power to the r/h drivers door on my VW golf 1.6 TI. Tried shaking wire loom next to door hinge area but to no avail. Is there a quick way of checking for power to the door?

Using a test lamp in conjunction with a wiring diagram is the best way to check for both power and a good ground and there is no better place to begin than inside the door. The ground is as important as the power supply.
The wires jumping the gap from body to door are vulnerable to internal breaks caused by flexing and it would be the height of luck to discover this by shaking the loom.

I suggest starting by providing an independent power and ground source to ensure the lift motor is actually working.
