How do you connect an amplifier to factory stereo?

By michael_j_ew on Jul 30, 2009

I am looking at buying a 2002 or 2003 mini but I want to know how to connect an amplifier to it. Do you use factory high level output or does the stereo have rca pre outs I can use? Also are the door speakers 5&1/4 inch or 6&1/2 inch speakers.

crutchfield.com has a complete list of speaker sizes. Most car amps now have connections for RCA inputs and speaker-level too, so you can probably use the existing head unit: most OEM head units do NOT have RCA outputs.
