This is what you will do. Check to see if the coolant is nice and green or if it has milky stuff floating on the top in the overflow bottle (next to the fender) and also check inside the radiator it self. Make sure that the coolant is clean inthere also. No white/milky stuff on top or on the back of the cap itself. Let me know what you find and we will take it from there. I have replaced 2 transmissions today that had fluid mixed up (trans fluid and coolant) because the radiator cooler (built in to the radiator) broke and the fluids mixed up and ruined the trany. You said that the dealership replaced the radiator. Why?? Unless the cooler broke, which means that your fluids mixed and the trans is no good. Changing the solenoid will not help. You will need a new trans and radiator ,but you already have that, so trans and cooler lines flushed only. Let me know what you find in the overflow bottle and in the radiator it self. CAUTION: open caps when vehicle is COLD, not HOT. It will burn you if its hot, so be carefull.

It is supposed to downshift depending on how much/hard you are accelerating.

My 92 cadillac deville shift at 30 miles per hour and again at 60 do you think its my transmission speed sensor

its very possible ,that's where tranny gets info to shift all your main gear shifting should be done by 35 mph and after 55 is overdrive the other is if you take it for a drive and manualy shift it out from lowest gear to highest and see how it functions, so you can feel the shifting advance then try it again just in drive only and see if you can feel the gears shift out , have you serviced tranny ? is it a high millage car it is 23 years old ,

When slowing down transmission shifts into low gear at a high speed and will not shift up

Check your service record for the last ATF and filter change.
Recommended interval is 24,000 miles.

Over time the filter can collect dirt and reduce the transmission pump pressure.

Check / top off the ATF and let me know the result on reply.

2001vw beetle automatic transmission is not shifting.

Sounds like a shift solenoid . See if you can order them separate from the valve body. I would call a vw dealer and talk with the service department.

What does the shift solenoid look like and where does it connect, how is it to fix myself

The solenoid is inside the transmission. On this kind of issue, I recommend changing the transmission fluid and maybe adding some conditioner to the fluid. If that doesn't work, a transmission specialist will have to open the transmission to repair.

Automatic transmission sounds like it stuck in 3rd gear

You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!
