I did notice alittle burning, would i have to replace the entire harness side or can i buy separate harness sections. I notice on a website the entire harness is pretty large and would be a pain in the ass to replace all of it. thanks for all your help

You can buy just the connector with short wires on it. You just have to splice it in

There is a blower motor resistor under the dash in the middle or closer to passenger side. It should be attached to the ducking with two bolts or screws. There will be a connector to unplug with probably about 4 wires. That resistor goes bad and will cause the symptoms your describing. Remove the connector, Remove the bolts or screws, and replace in opposite order. Very simple to replace but locating and actual replacement will sometimes be difficult. Talk to your local auto store and most should be able to point you in the right direction. The part should be around $20. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks.

05 GMC sierra heater blower stopped working. It used to work on setting 1-4 but lost 4 a couple weeks ago and now none of them work. Is this a bad blower , resistor or both?

The resistor is most likely bad but should still work on the highest setting.Would check pigtails to the resistor and to the blower motor for burnt or discolored wiring. You can try tapping the blower motor and wiggling the wiring harness too see if it will work on the highest setting. It is possible that the blower motor is bad as well typically when you lose the speed selection it is the resistor but you should always have high speed.

Ok, may sound like a dumb question, but how do you know if its a blower motor resistor problem or just the blower/motor. Ive been reading solutions for problem on the A/C blower still blowing air but speeds...

The blower motor resistor is usually only switched into the circuit for the lower speeds and for the fastest speed the resistor is bypassed so I guess the motor needs to be replaced if it does not work in any position. However, sometimes the blower motor is not protected by a fuse but by an automatically resetting sealed circuit breaker usually located not far from the motor. The circuit breakers dont fail very often, If the fan works for a few seconds and then stops and then does the same thing several minutes later then the fan motor definitely needs replacing.

the blower not working on settings 1-3 is the blower motor resistor. this limits the power provided to the blower motor itself to change the speed. at setting 4 it is getting full power. since it quit on 4 also, i would still say the resistor needs to be replaced first, then see if the blower comes back. you may also need a blower motor. if you have a voltmeter you can just turn the switch to 4 and see if the motor is still getting 12 volts. if it is and doesn't run, it needs a blower motor too. if it's not, then its just the resistor

My fan selection only works on selection 4 and 5 what do I need to fix it?

replace the blower motor resistor this is the main cause of blower settings not to function. the resistor will be located on the blower motor housing. follow the wires from the blower motor to the resistor

AC only works on settings 3 & 5

souns like a bad blower resistor.the resistor controls the different speeds.sometimes every speed except the highest will stop working.the blower resistor is almost always near the blower motor.

Hello,

The blower motor, as you have probably seen, is under the dash on the passengers side. While in Park with the parking brake applied:

Turn the Key On with fan blower set to High. Locate the blower motor and wiggle the electrical connector. If this brings the blower motor to life, a new blower motor is needed. This, if applicable, is a common failure that matches your symptoms. The new blower is simple to replace, although it is never fun working under the dash.

If you have a 12 volt test light or DVOM (multimeter) you can check for power at the electrical connector. You should have battery voltage (12+) with the blower set on high. Always use a known good ground when testing for power. If you have power (key on, set to high) and no blower operation the blower motor needs replacing.

The resistor you replaced is a very common failure on these.

Give me an update.
