That's the sign of a bad engine coolant temp sensor. If computer is getting the wrong reading, it sends too lean a mixture. When you press the pedal, you override the temp sensor and it gives more gas

Possible weak spark from ignition coil or low fuel pressure due to weak pump. Try spraying carb clean into intake throttle body when problem is present. If vehicle will start and run with a little spray then fuel pump is failing.

I had the same problem but I did two fixes for it (1) when I bought the truck several years ago the duel tank switch was pushed in but i never fixed it and just would switch tanks with the switch pushed into the dash. after awhile it acted like it didn't know what tank to draw from point is i finally replaced the switch and it ran, but still ran rough, (2) on the left side of the motor their is an EGR valve (it was green colored vacum hose) I replaced that vacum hose and now it runs great.

Is it cranking?

Check the battery voltage. It should be around 12.5 volts or higher.

First make sure oil is full, this may be low oil pressure or bad oil sending unit, you should have this checked ASAP.

engine damage can occur due to low oil pressure, you need to have this checked, it may just be a bad sensor. (sending unit)

Have you tried reading the trouble codes from the ecu to see what's actually gone bad? A bad crank sensor will not allow the ecu to pulse the injectors and spray fuel.

I had a similar problem with a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and it ended up being a bad fuel filter. But it could be a number of different things. My suggestion would be to check the vehicle on-board computer trouble codes and go from there. Good Luck.

2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo won't start.

has the crank sensor been replaced yet? If not, this is what gives the most no start troubles I have seen. If you want to know for sure, you will need to take it somewhere when it does it so they can see what is dropping out.
