Question about 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Car stalls when stopped if AC is on

The idle really drops (like around 500) when the car is at a stop if the AC is on. It has stalled and died several times on me, if I have the AC on when the car isn't moving. I've had everything checked on the AC side, and that isn'tthe problem. Fan replaced, compressor is ok, etc. I think it is the computer that controls the idle....

Will take it in to Chrysler to see if they can fix it.

If the engine stalls when ac is on then there is a problem with the ac pump bearing could be sized, the ac pump has a clutch and this engages when ac is activated, there is usually a small drop in engine idle but should not stall the engine unless the engine idle is to low. should be around 880 rpms idle with the ac on,

Disconnect the positive wire on the battery for 15 minutes Reconnect the positive wire on the battery and start and let the car idle for 15 minutes. Must be in idle, do not try to drive it around or it will stall at intersections and you'll have to start all over. This process essentially clears the computer and then gives the computer enough time to get its bearings and calibrate. After that you should have no more problems. Dumb design that causes extra headache whenever I take it to be worked on and they have to disconnect the battery.

My fan stopped blowing too!! I was worried that my compressor had went out. The mechanic said that the blower had burned out and he charged me 169.00 for the part and 50.00 for labor.

My daughter had this same exact issue on her 97 sebring as well. We checked EVERYTHING else before replacing cars computer (ECM) and wazoo it was fixed. We had replaced spark plug wires, plugs, O2 sensor, egr valve...etc and it was the computer after all that. So pull yours out and take it to car quest or autozone etc and see if they can test it. I would bet thats your problem. GOOD LUCK!! Let me know how it goes.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Have someone feather the gas pedal while you listen carefully to the engine. If the leak is bad enough you'll probable hear it.
More than likely, it's either a vacuum hose or the o-rings under the intake manifold.

Hope this helps!

94 Lincoln TC engine stalls when slowing/stopping

Most common cause of stalling for Lincolns in that era is the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It regulates fuel mixture, idle speed etc. A bad TPS will usually act up in one of two ways:
  1. When cold, car continually stalls
  2. When warm, car stalls when slowing down (especially if AC is on)
As far as valve cover oil leak, it's a problem that should be addressed to keep oil from fouling your spark plugs but highly unlikely to be the cause of your stalling problem. Hope this answers your question. All the best.

When engine is warmed up the car begins hesitating

I really think it's the TPS, (throttle positioning sensor) on the throttle body. When this sensor is defective or out of position the vehicle will idle like that and even stall. If you haven't had it scanned, you should do so, that will probably tell you the problem.

near the throttle body there is an adjusting screw(flat head) for air fuel mixture, it's on a deep cavity sometimes with a cover, adjust counterclockwise will increase the idle.
