SOURCE: I am trying to do a tune up on my own on a 2000

OK, i have put a step by step check list for you to follow. this will lead you through the vitals and secondary tune up sections that will ensure optimal performance. The list reads as follows.

Step1
Replace the fuel filter. If you have a fuel-injection system, regular cleaning isn't necessary unless the injectors are clogged.
Step2
Change the spark plugs (unless they're platinum, in which case you have 30,000 more miles to go). Also examine the spark plug wires and replace as needed. A new set of high-quality wires is worth the cost. They may be permanently attached to the distributor cap, so it will have to be changed as well.
Step3
Replace the distributor cap and rotor if your car has them (some newer models with distributor-less ignition don't).
Step4
Change the points and condenser if you have an older car (roughly 1978 or older) that doesn't feature electronic ignition. You'll actually want your points changed, or at least adjusted, every six months or so (if they're changed, check the ignition timing as well).
Step5
Check the ignition timing and adjust as needed (rare for a car with electronic ignition--post-1980--and some cars don't allow this at all).
Step6
Adjust the valves as needed (unless your car has hydraulic valves). Be sure to replace the valve-cover gasket as well, especially if you see oil on top of your engine.
Step7
Check the belts. Replace if worn.
Step8
Check the fluids under the hood and replenish as necessary. Change the oil and oil filter if it's been 3,000 miles since the last oil change.
Step9
Replace the air filter, which should be changed between major services--every 15,000 miles--as well.
Step10
Adjust the clutch, if you have a manual transmission (although some cars now sport self-adjusting clutches).
Step11
Service the battery, adding distilled water (if required), cleaning terminals and cable ends.
Step12
Replace the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. It can make your car run rough or stall if it gets clogged, and it's cheap and easy to replace.

EXTRAS---

If you want to increase your compression rate, i recommend Replacing the gaskets on your intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Also, Replace the oil pan's gasket as well. This will increase the compression of the engine block.

Please rate and god bless:)

SOURCE: How to change the spark plugs on a 2000 mitsubishi

front ones are simple you just pull the rubber boot off of it and screw it out. The ones on the back are a pain. you have to take the intake off to get to them. I would recommend a repair manual from an auto parts store.

SOURCE: 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse will not idle, all else OK, just repl bat

I can only offer these few ideas.

  1. The TP throttle position sensors for this year group fail often Pin 1 to Pin 4 resistance should be 3.6 to 6.3 ohms but you need to remove the two 7mm bolts that hold this sensor on the front side of the throttle body, then rotate the two bolstered center and see a change in resistance from low to high. If the resistance remains fixed, the sensor is rusted out and must be replaced.
  2. The IAC motor is mounted on th LH side (driver's) of the throttle body. It should make a clicking sound when the key is turned from Lock to Run. Pin 2 to Pin 1, Pin 2 to Pin 3, Pin 5 to Pin 4, and finally Pin 5 to Pin 6 must all have continuity at 38 to 52 ohms.
  3. Check for any vacuum leaks.
  4. Remove clean and check EGR.
  5. If this is a Cranks but will not start problem, check the owners manual for Theft Deterant UNLOCK proceedure. If there is power at the rear fuel pump relay coil and no power at the MFI/ASD front relay coil and no spark, then its the security system.

2000 eclipse gt getting a po1400 code and car does not idle right all the time and sometimes it dies. Mechanic said it was ecm, any ideas

PO1400 is not a common code. PO140 however is. PO140 is a oxygen sensor problem, it refers to bank 1 sensor 2 having no activity. This could cause your eclipse to not hold a good idle and possibly to stall. I would have a different mechanic check the car before you spend quite a bit of cash on an ECM as they can cost upwards of 800 dollars

Change a crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 eclipse

Is this a V6 or 4cyl???>>>(V6) This requires removing the Harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). Remove (R) front wheel, remove engine splash Guard, Remove crank pulley, remove lower timing belt cover. The Crank sensor is located behind the crank shaft pulley!! I highly recommend having this done by a certified tech, requires special tools. Hopefully this helps!!

Air & Fuel Filter check, Check the gap on your spark plugs. Heat makes metal contract and the cold makes it expand
