I found this on line....
"I changed the starter on my 06 a few weeks ago. If you plan on changing it yourself it's not that hard but is a PIA compared to a V8. The area is very tight. I pulled off the drivers front wheel and removed the small cover held in place by 2 push/snap in plugs. Remove the 2 plugs and pull the cover toward the front of the car (it snaps into the firewall/wheel well). I broke this on mine, the push plugs still hold the cover on but it's loose. I also unbolted the break line and pushed it aside. You can see the starter now and disconnect the starter cable. (don't forget to disconnect the battery) There is a cover over the cable nut that has a release on one side to open it. There is also the ignition wire to unplug but I waited until the starter was off to make it easier to get to. I used a ratcheting box wrench to unbolt 2 bolts holding the starter from under the car. The bottom bolt was not a problem but the top bolt was done mostly by feel. Once the starter is unbolted disconnect the ignition wire and it's free. Get it out through the wheel well, don't think it will come out from the bottom. It took me about 2 hours to remove and 30-40 minutes to reinstall"

Check the brake fluid level in the slave cylinder first If low you will not be able to shift..If you have to fill it, pump it for 30 to 40 times to prime with the engine off. Then check the fluid again. If full start and see if it shifts. If it leaks out the slave cylinder or line is leaking

it has a computerized electronic brake distribution system.it is very complex and only mazda can tell you if it can be altered.it measures how fast and how hard the pedal is applied

You will have to remove the center console and then the shifter asm. look down inside where the shifter goes and you will see 3 selectors one will be out of position. You will need to pop it back inline with the other 2. After that look at the bottom of the shifter ther should be a bushing on the very end, if it is not there you will need to get one from your dealer, they are like 8 dollars and then you just pop it on and reasemble in reverse order and you should not have any more trouble.
