Would a stuck emergency brake cause this problem?
SOURCE: Emergency brake light
Dear Customer,
Check this,
1
derive your car on 5 to 10mph than take it into nutral gear,

IF NOT THAN YOUR your car have finetunniing of brakes & if have some jurk than you have to adjust your car brake system
2
than check your tail lights indicating your brakes & simultaneously works with emergency also,
3

it does seem that that might be the problem. the only way that you can fix it is to go through the ecm and reset it. this requires a diagnostic scan tool not just a code reader. when the tcm was changed was the ecm cleared?. if not this would explain alot because the ecm still thinks there is a fault. please rate this thanks.

Check your alternator, if you recently had it replaced - make sure that the one you got is correct, if your working on your own.. take a volt meter, set it to dc volts and measure across the battery while the car is running, generally you see around 14 volts, 12+ volts from the battery always and the alternator adds around 2 while running - the weird smell you smell if it smells like a dying rat, it would sound like you will need an alternator - as for your brakes, I'd start by checking the parking brake lever - back to your battery light, make sure all connectors are good on the alternator and also if your alternator does measure 14 volts, turn on all acessories - wipers headlights, radio, blower, rear defogger - this will generate what we call a load, if you then go to your battery you should see the battery voltage not drop below around 13.5 if it does, you probably need an alternator because it's failing to meet the demands of your car. though the lights come on together, it doesn't necessarily mean their in the same circuit - I had the exact same problem with a nissan altima of that year, that came into the shop... all its bulbs were burnt out and it kept having that happen, then other times it was just fine! give that a try, if that doesn't work send me an email at [email protected] I'd be glad to give you advice! You need to scan for engine trouble codes. Most parts stores will do this for free, and tell you what they mean and make recommendations on what to do. The 'limp mode' kicks in to prevent damage to the vehicle when the computer gets data that something is wrong.. When you shut it off, it's temporarily reset, but then the cars computer is signaling there is still a problem, and it goes back into limp mode. If you have any questions after getting the codes 'read' , post questions and code #;s here for help. Good luck.
SOURCE: 2005 Lincoln LS in Limp Mode. I can start the car
You have a very bad COP Ignition Coil, that is spiking the PCM (computer)
The spike comes back on the TPS Sensor, then the PCM doesn't see the
throttle signal your foot sent thru, the pedal actuator (gas pedal) ,so it puts the
car into ETC Failsafe, and you can only go 6 mph.
If you got no ETC Failsafe, on the bottom right side of the dash, tell me what you do have
I need all the codes,if you have a MIL Lamp on ( the one that looks like a wrench)
