SOURCE: fuel pump replacement on 2005 ford focus

Are you sure that you need to replace the pump? I drive a 54 plate mk2 1.6 zetec that wouldn't always start and I was told it was the fuel pump in the tank but because the fault was intermitant I didn't have it fitted and found out that the car didn't start because the fuel lift pump wasn't priming the system before starting. I found that there was a faulty connection on the relay for the pump that is in the compartment under the glove compartment.

SOURCE: i am about to change a fuel filter on my 09 ram

If you do not refill the filter housing after replacing the fuel filter there is another way to refill the housing.
after the filter is replaced and the cap is secured turn the ignition to run for about 5 seconds then turn to off. again turn to run for about 5 seconds then turn off. Repeat this about 8 to 10 times and then start the engine.
What happens is that every time you turn the ignition to run the fuel pump attempts to pressurize the line then shuts off. That is why you have to repeat the process.
While the truck is running the power to run the fuel pump comes from ecm. Some kind of safety function Dodge has built into the system so fuel will not continue to run if the engine is shut off.

my toyota corolla d4d 2.0 fuel filter light keeps coming on. when this happens it is my understanding that
the car may not start, it does not pick up speed and there could be a leakage of fuel. but none of this is happening everything seems fine

I replaced the Serpentine Belt on my 2001 Ford Focus along with a new Water Pump. Why is now overheating?!

You have to bleed the air out of the system. IF you don't then the pump wont prime or you get hot spots in the water jacket, See youtube for videos.

When replacing the fuel filter how do i bleed the air out.

Petrol filter will need checking for leaks after replacement but not need bleeding.

A diesel filter does need some special attention. Early systems with a conventional diesel injection pump need bleeding if the facility to do so is provided. Lots of systems weren't fitted with hand priming pumps and in that case the filter had to be prefilled before or after fitting by whatever means could be devised. Lots of modern vehicles are fitted with hand priming pumps that ease the task tremendously and such pumps are available in the aftermarket for retrofitting - it is an excellent investment of time and money.

A very few diesel vehicles were fitted with an in-tank pump that will automatically prime the fuel system.

I changed my fuel pump because it has 260,000 miles on it and truck would cut off when It got warm. Now it wont start after I replaced pump. What do I need to do to get it to start again?

Did you put at least 5 gallons in the tank so the pump will prime properly? Do you hear the new pump running for 1 second when the key is turned to run? Do this remove the Schrader valve core from the fuel supply rail to the injectors on the engine fuel pressure test port (don't loose it) and repeatedly cycle the key from off to run, do not crank the engine, this will help to prime the electric fuel pump, but have at least 5 gallons in the tank before starting the process. Make sure someone watches the fuel pressure test port so when fuel starts to flow you stop the priming process before everything is covered in gas. Also a fuel pump doesn't cause the system you described, an ignition control module and stator cause that and are a known problem in this year of truck. Another problem is the ignition starter switch comes apart.

How do u prime a fuel pump

If you're referring to a fuel injected gasoline vehicle, self prime takes place at key start. If you still feel the need to have the computer repeat this process (or re- self prime), turn the key all the way until the dash lights come on, then turn off. Repeat this 5 times then attempt to start. If all the windows are closed and the radio is off, when you turn key on with engine off, you'll hear the fuel pump at the rear of vehicle buzz or hum as it's priming the system.

Water in fuel light comes on, engine won't start, profuse white smoke on cranking. Trying to find fuel filter/separator, but unable to.

If this an e 350 between 93 and 2003, the fuel filter is located on top of engine front. You will have to take air filter box off to get to it, the fuel filter housing has a lever on the side to drain water. Always a good idea to use fuel conditioner, especially in the winter. Will help disperse the moisture in the fuel. Remember after changing the fuel filter, you will have to bleed the fuel system. bleed it by cranking engine until it starts, if the vehicle has a mechanicle fuel pump ( 98 or earlier) later modles have an electric pump. System may be primed by cycling the electric fuel pump 2 or 3 times. Please me feedback if this helps. This is is the only way we know if we helped you with a problem

Engine will not fire immediately when key engaged unless accelerater pumped prior to key engagment, already changed fuel filter twice

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is allowing the fuel pressure to bleed down. While sitting (key off) it should hold about 30 psi of fuel pressure to keep the system primed. When it bleeds down it causes an extended start, you sometimes have to cycle the key a couple of time before it will start. If this is the case then replace fuel pressure regulator. FYI pumping the accelerator on a fuel injected vehicle does not prime the system.

04 Focus SVT- All brakes will bleed out except the right rear..??

Have somone help you as you bleed the brakes. Have them pump the pedal 3 times and hold the pedal down with constant pressure while you crack the bleed valve open to the problem caliper. Don't let them release the pedal until you have closed the bleeder valve. Continue this process until you have fluid coming out without air. Periodacillay check the master cylinder to be sure it remains full enough so as not to allow more air in because the resivouir ran to low during the bleeding process. If when you are done and the brake light continues to be on then you will need to bleed the proportioning valve until the system balances out on line pressure.
If this works can you please give me a rating??? Thank you.

Fuel filter on a 6.2 diesel

You need to install an electric fuel pump to lift the fuel from the tank to the mechanical pump. You can turn off the electric pump after starting or use it when bleeding the lines after changing the fuel filter. You can start the truck after a few minutes instead of a few days. I know from experience and fought that problem for years.

Ford focus 1.8 turbo deisel 1999.

do not understand you what you mean. assuming your car was ok before you changed f/filter you need to bleed the fuel system of air. esiest to do would be to loosen fuel line at the injectors and have assistant crank the engine while you observe for clear fuel leak without any air bubbles from fuel line.tighten fuel lines and start engine. might have to repeat a few times. good luck.
