Astra ah 2008 z18xer motor. Engine struggles to start if not used for a couple of days. Then idels very rough for 5-10 seconds and settles to a normal idle.

The engine will cut out for the first couple of starts. When it gets going it has an idle where it drops up and down like it wants to cut out. When it gets going it has an idle where it drops up and down like it wants to cut out. Settles down after about 5 to 10 seconds and then will idle steadily.

Hi Nick With your description I am assuming that if you used your car every day, it starts and runs perfectly well. With NO issues whatsoever. That being the case I would say its fuel related (unless your car is not used when it is cold or damp). And open to the elements. I would probably be looking at fuel quality (no water contamination). Possible fuel filter/ fuel pump fuel leaking back to tank over a period of time and pump struggling to get the fuel up to injectors when you come to start the vehicle. Or leaky injectors soaking spark plugs again over a period of time. Not so bad when just left overnight. My advise would be either take it to a dealer or get a mechanic to look at it specialised equipment will be required i.e. fuel pressure gauge and some electrical testers. The fuse box/fuel relay is also another possible but unlikely going on your description. Good luck

SOURCE: 02 Grand Cherokee High RPM start. Cuts out when driving

Ckean throttle plate inside throttle body...They tend to get dirtier than their counterparts in carbureted engines due to lack of fuel spray that kept them clean. If no luck with that, clean idle air control valve on TB. When doing this, don't turn the plunger, just clean with carb spray and replace. do not loose "o" ring seal.
Good luck

SOURCE: 1997 Saturn SC2 5-speed idling/revving oddly

there are a couple of things to look at. first take a look at the tempature controll sensor, its on the right side of the block. It kinda looks like a spark plug sticking out the side of the block. If its cracked or broken then it will mess with your idle. Also you should be checking your throtle body control censor and your throtle body. clean everything out. also the BWD Ignition Module/Control Unit. If its cracked it will cause this exact problem. I would also add a general tune up with spark plugs and wires. If you follow these directions I think you will be good, if this does not work let me know, I can give more info once I have a better idea.

SOURCE: Engine cuts out during heavy rains. This started

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH AN ASTRO VAN. THE PROBLEM WAS WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR UNDERNEATH THE VAN, NEXT TO THE FUEL TANK.THIS WAS CAUSING A SHORT, NOT BAD ENOUGH TO BLOW THE FUSE, BUT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE PUMP TO SHUT DOWN. BEST WAY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IS TO FIND THE CONNECTOR AND SPRAY IT WITH WATER WHILE THE VAN IS RUNNING. ALSO DO A WIGGLE TEST, THIS IS DONE BY GRABBING THE HARNESS TO THE PUMP AND MOVING IT AROUND, IF YOU HAVE A LOOSE CONNECTOR OR A BAD WIRE THE VAN SHOULD SHUT OFF.

Testimonial: "I will give it a try and see if it appears to be the problem. I did think about the pump being a problem and sprayed water on and above the tank also but it did not seem to matter either. Someone suggested wires but there are none in this van. thanks."

I want to do any oil and filter change on my 2006 Astra 4 door hatch it is Holden GM model AH CDx it has an ecotec 1.8l unleaded petrol engine

So what is the problem? The new filter for a Z18XE screws directly on to the front of the engine block behind the radiator, and the oil drains out of the drain plug at the base of the sump. The Z18XER only differs in that the filter sits in a round black housing visible from the top right of the engine and is requires a 32mm spanner to remove the cover. The filter is different from that on the Z18XE

Rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.
