84 F150 fuel transfer problem

I have and 84 f150 300 straght 6 with a carb. (no injectors). When I switch to the front fuel tank, the truck will run about a mile and then start to die. I switch to the rear tank and it kicks right back in and runs great. Both tanks are full of fuel. I changed the fuel transfer valve and still the same problem. Is there anything else I can try? Transfer switch, relay switch, wiring, filters???

If there is not a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the block it will have a pump in that tank on some fords you can get to the tank and check for power if it has a pump in the tank otherwise you have a vacuum leak in the line or the fuel tank filter is plugged. also and this is what I would check first is test the switch for it switching power from one side to the other and see if you here the switching valve shift over. I had to replace a few of them over the years. Normally it's the valve itself it gets junk in it and does not allow the valve to switch.

I believe Ford installed a "sock like" filter in their fuel tanks, You may need to remove the front tank and check that out. The reason your vehicle will continue for a bit is that your bowl on your carb will retain 3 to 4oz of fuel...when it gets empty...Your vehicle will die. Can't think of anything else it could be..

Good luck

common on older high mileage fors to either have the switch go out or the intank pump go bad, you cang ground terminal 6 on the underhood diag plug with key on engine off and switch from front to rear or vice versa and listen for fuel pumps to be running, likely one is not

F150 dual fuel tank problem

I have to say i'm only guessing, but it sounds like the valve that switches the flow of gas from one tank to the other must be sticking part way open, or bypassing or something, and anything your engine doesn't require, is being returned to the front tank, instead of the rear.

When I switch from my front fuel tank to my rear tank gas stops

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.

Fuel injector cleaner

you separated dirt/water sludge from tank and sent it to the injectors...fill at least half way and crank with carb cleaner wafting into intake to start...if it doesnt run on own or runs **** you may need to clean /replace injectors
