It sounds like its burning to much oil. May be time for for a valve job which is pretty costly try pouring a bottle of LUCAS oil stabilizer in your engine and see if that helps

My 96 vw polo developed a large oil leak on the drivers side of the engine around lowest pulley wheel is it the oil seal ?

i dont think its the oil seal check the oil pressure light switch ,i am assuming its a RHD model a the engine pulley would be on this side on a RHD vehicle ,now if its the engine model iam thinking of then the oil switch is at the top of the engine on the cylinder head about 3 inches back from the cam gear wheel ,failing which it could be the head gasket as the oil feed to the head is here as well

The oil pressure light and alarm keeps going off on my 2000 vw polo. it is only when the engin is warm after approx 10 miles. sump and strainer have been cleaned and also new sensor been fitted and oil...

Incorrect level. Check level at operating temps and while the engine is running. By sump and stainer you meant that you removed the oil pan off the car and cleaned the pickup tube of the oil pump? I'd suggest hooking up an oil pressure gauge so you'll know which part of the engine is starving oil and setting the warning.
