Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Truck

1 Answer

The cruise control works fine when on level terrain; however, when I enter a slight up grade it shuts off and won't restart unless I turn off the key and wait a few minutes. Meanwhile, the check engine light is on and the code is P1740 (torque converter). The local Dodge dealer thought the problem might be associated with the after market PacBrake installed, but I took the truck to the PacBrake installer and they checked it out and found no problem. In fact, the cruise control did the same thing when the PacBrake was disconnected. When the problem first occurred there was a second code in the check engine light P0483. The PacBrake guy was able to erase that code and it hasn't come back. We're pretty sure the problem is with the cruise control or computer??

HI. that P0483 is a Cooling Fan Rationality Check Malfunction. This is normally a CPU issue, and it signals issues with the actual integrity of the CPU as well. The cruise control module receives a signal from the CPU that control engine power and vehicle speed based on changes in road conditions and the engine load.It also Provides correct air and fuel mixture to engine for different driving conditions. The module(cruise) and CPU are suspect in my estimation. I recommend replacing the CC module and The CPU as well. this will fix this issue.

Due to the fact that the system has to be shutdown to be reset, leads me to this solution. it seems that both the Module and engine CPU are damaged. the additional components(servo/switch/power solenoid), all seems to be in good condition.

The firs thing you need done is t have a fault code test run on the transmission control module. But it likely you have a transmission that may have to be rebuilt in the end, but get the testing done first. Also check to make sure the fluid and filter has been changed at least every 60,000 miles.

Cruise control wont engage after restarting vehicle

The fact that the light comes on is a good indication that the electronics are working, the most common problem is a vacumn leak. This can be a damaged or cracked vacumn line, a bad check valve, or the dump switch on the brake pedal

2010 Nissan Pathfinder Cruise Control issues

First I'll assume you haven't read the owners Manuel, Cruise control is not perfect on any vehicle. if coming to a hill put foot on gas to help rpm, going down hill put foot on brake to keep same speed, cruise control operates off of engine vacuum. Speed sensors can be affected by putting on smaller or bigger tires than what is on drivers door.

Envoy 2005 XL Cruise control not working

Your dealership should have seen any underlying codes. Most Cruise controls I've worked on are used on the vehicles vacuum. that is where i would start, because on a grade your engine uses more vacuum pressure thus taking from some where else.

Ford f-250 super duty, overdrive will bump on a slight grade at 50 -65 miles per hour.Truck drives great and no other problems with the transmission.I have started turning off the overdrive on slight hills...

what do you mean by "bump?"
if it is vibrating it could be one or more things and if it is down shifting hard to lower gear it could mean other things.

My cruise control will suddenly stop working and the cruise light

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the brake fluid level. This may be an answer. Also have you had the brakes checked. The cruise control is integrated with the brakes. Any little thing wrong with them effects the cruise.
