It sounds like a lack of oil changes to me?the engine has a lot of carbon build up.clean the valve cover and the breather pipes to remove as much carbon as posible maybe try a good engine flush.

What is the purpose of oil cap on valve cover

That is where you put the oil when you are low on oil or when you an oil change. When you open the hood you should see a oil dipstick. Make sure the car has been off for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Have a clean paper towel and remove the dipstick. make sure its the dipstick if you have an automatic transmission. trans fluid is red in color oil will be golden to dark black depending on how often you change the oil. wipe the dipstick off and at the end you will see a full mark near the end. Replace the dipstick back into the tube you removed it from and pull it out again, check the end where it says full. If there is oil up to the full mark your good, if not add oil through the oil cap hole in valve cover top. re-wipe the dip stick and check to see if full. Add oil as needed. If you keep up with your oil changes as required depending on the oil requirements. 10w30 regular oil is every 3,000 miles. Castrol synthetic oil is every 21,000 miles. Use a good oil filter. Consult your auto parts dealer.

Can't find the oil filter

Hi there, If you open the hood on your Solstice...stand on the driver side near the windshield and lean over into the engine compartment, you will see a yellow handle which is the oil dipstick..and from there if you look almost straight down from the dipstick you will see a black cap that has sort of a bolt on top of it..its on top of the motor, kind of near the firewall....that is where your oil filter is. Have a couple of rags and some type of bowl when you pull it out, its messy!!!
Hope that helps, and good luck!!!

Can;t locate auto transmission dipstick on 1985 honda civic

on passenger side of engine compartment you have the transmission, if you look down from above. there should be an inconspicuous round black rubber knob sticking up from a short tube kinda down low in the engine compartment, on the front-side of the transmission. definitely not as obvious as the oil stick
