These had a few alarm issues, check the operation of the rear windscreen washer and make sure it works ok, sometimes the water pipe comes off inside the tailgate lid and the water gets onto the microswitch on the tailgate locking mechanism and this causes the alarm to go off

As far as the overheating problem, check the fan relay switch. The alarm should be as easy as changing the remote battery. For the radio try replacing the fuse, this should get you going.

My alarm system isn't working right

Make sure the battery is fully charged, and check for corrosion on the terminals/wires, make sure no wires are loose. If this alarm is like my friend's Camaro, a power disruption trips the alarm.

Hi
The only sensible way forward is to get a list of fault codes from the onboard diagnostic system and take it from there. You could either go to a VW dealer, or if you are technically minded you could buy a £15 interface cable, download some free "VAG diagnostic software" and run it on a portable computer.

In some circumstances the car will shut down to "limp mode" to get you home, but I don't think you would have put up with this for 2 years!

If these suggestions do help you solve the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my knowledge / guessing skills.
If they do not, please hold off on the rating just now and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
