Question about 2004 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

Instrument cluster and lights are turning off intermittently.

I can start our 05 Grand Caravan and everything is working fine and start driving down the road. After a few minutes, dash and all lights go out! Turn it off for awhile and they work again. They might even come back on by themselves while driving but not usually.
Any suggestions?

Likely you have a bad connection on one of the dash connector plugs. Generally if they come on when you smack the top of the dash when they go off that verifies it. If so, remove the dash face and gauge panel (use manual) and clean contacts.

Sounds like you may have the dash cluster solder problem. Here's a link to some pictures of what needs to be done, but if you google Caravan dash soldering, or similar, there is more details out there.

1999 dodge caravan intermittent instrument cluster

This Seems Indicative Of a Poor Connection AT The CLUSTER Or A Junction Connecter Close to the Cluster. This is Assuming you Have Ruled OUT ALL ABS COMPONENTS, LOOK at These VERY CLOSLY Because of the Small Volts These Wires Carry , the SMALLEST DEFECT WILL Cause this Type of Symptom that you have given. Please try all of the Above, I feel Confedint that athis is where your Problem Is.

We have an intermittent problem with the instrument cluster. You will be driving along and the entire cluster dies. No tach, no speedometer, no lights, etc. Usually within the next 3 or 4 times the van is...

This is a bad connection within the printed circuit of the instument cluster. It seems to be worse in higher temps, like being in the sun with the windows up for several hours. (I feel it should be a recall) Sometimes a firm tap on the face of the cluster will bring it back, but the only solution at this point is to repace the cluster.

For 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, instrument clusters with light when ignition turn on, but there's no crank and no start. Battery just changed five months ago

I have a similar problem. Do you also notice the gauges on the instrument panel going out from time to time? (Have to slap the dashboard.) I have been told the start problem is related to a problem with the instrument panel (a control unit contained therein). I have found at times turning the key to the ON position for a few seconds (odometer lights stabilize) before moving to the START position sometimes helps.

Unfortunately, replacing the instrument cluster/control unit can cost up to $600-700. I am not a mechanic, but have inquired about this for my own Caravan. Good luck.

Instrument panel lights out on 01 Dodge Grand

These vans have had issues with the PIN connections to the instrument clusters. With time the solder on the main PIN connection will begin to fail. The good news this may be repaired at home. First you'll need to remove the instruments. To do so remove the dash components from around the instruments then the (4) screws) that hold the instruments in place. Carefully detach the wire connection from the back of it; take to a well lit area. Look for a PIN with a failed solder joint (this will appear as a slight black or grey circle. If found apply heat and let solder be gin to flow; the allow to cool and reassemble. If you look at my history you'll see I've helped others with this issue. I had the same issue with my dodge caravan and after several attempts by the dealer to fix it, it turned out to be a broken wire. They replaced the relay and it would work for a while and then go blank again. Have the wires checked thoroughly.

1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. Whenever the ABS warning light comes on, there seems to be some sort of short that causes the rest of the instrument panel to die. No illumination, no gages working. When the ABS...

I had the same problem. Abs light would come on and I would lose all dash instruments. Hit a bump on the road and abs light would go off and dash would come back on. What I did to fix problem, lol I slaped the dash just to the right of instrument panel and it all came back to life. There seems to be a short there, and I slaped it back 3 times in a week and now for the last month it has stayed on.
