Let me say again. 24 valve 5.9 cummins 24 valve. replaced injector pump and lift pump. In the morning its a little hard to start cranks fine just cranks for about 20sec. before firing. The the rest of the day it fires immediately. But over nite settng, next morning another 20 sec. of cranking before it starts. Pressure test shows 14 psi when i bump the starter and 10psi at idle.8 to 10 psi and full open throttle against the governor.idles at approx.600 to 800 rpms. Any suggestions Thank you for your time it is very appriecated.

Check standing battery voltage after sitting overnight. Battery may not be in very good shape, after starting, it will develop a surface charge that helps during subsequent starts. A starter that is drawing too much amperage can also cause this. Also make sure glow plugs are good.

#s you gave don't sound terrible...I'd expect it to start better. Was talking with a friend that has a cummins in a big dodge who was complaining about nearly the same thing. He put some acetone in the fuel and hasn't had the problem since. I use it in my gasoline engines once in a while @ 3oz per 10 gal, to keep the injectors clean...I think he got the idea from me, but I've never tried it in a diesel. Can't hurt to give it a try!! I'd think that perhaps you have a couple of injectors that may be dripping, but I'm more oriented to really big-inch "old school" injection systems that pump nitromethane...never was in love with diesels 'cause they don't go fast. Reason I gave previous asnswer is that a few months back I watched two techs struggle with a no start diesel that had a marginal starter. When they finally figured it out it was four hours later! But...that's obviously not your problem. Fuel quality overall has been lousy for the past year and seems to be getting worse...don't know how it is near you. Like I said...give it a try...you don't even have to get dirty to do it!

Car won't start first time each day but after the first start. It starts every time during the day

That is most likely a problem with your choke. If you have a diesel, it would be glow plugs. Also your fuel pressure can bleed off over night if you have even a small fuel system leak.

Http://youtu.be/T1hf7bPjCEk It won't start in the mornings but starts the rest of the day just fine once started. I don't know how to explain it, please watch the video.

Just did a 2010. 6.0 diesel. Inter cooler problems, ran bad, but ran. Fixed it and had a no start. Keyed it several times and started, started the rest of the day, So we shipped it out to the customer. Came back with no start. Through the scanner on it and no codes. But we weren't getting the oil pressure to start the engine. (takes 500 psi) Cycled the IPR solenoid a dozen times and finally got pressure and started. Replaced it and it hasn't been back. I have worked on plenty of 7.3's and always looked at the IPR solenoid first for no starts. Even told the boss to check the IPR when it came back. He told me 6.0 were different beasts. IPR solenoids aren't cheap, I would put it on a scanner to make sure.

The first time I start my 96 2500 diesel every morning it starts great but then in about 5 seconds it starts to starve for fuel and I have to hold the accelerator down or it will go dead. After the first...

It sounds like the sendary or low volume pump is not working when cold ! Its also possible that the primary pump is doing the same thing ! There are updates on parts to move or consolidate both pumps ! Basically when you first start your truck your running on the fuel thats already in the fuel housing and then it runs out or low due to insuffecient supply !

You have fuel runback.Replace the injector leak off pipes then try.If this does not work then have a non return valve fitted to your fuel supply pipe close as possible to the punp.Hope that was helpfull good luck.

Hi ..... It sounds like you're getting air into the system overnight. Diesel won't come out but air will go in. Check the fuel filter is on tight and that any soundproofing on top of the engine hasn't caused a stress fracture in/on any of the injector lines. Find where your manual primer is and before you start it in the morning give it a couple of pumps. What I have seen in the past is the positve live feed to the pump corrode (green) and after cleaning and tightening up the crimp all is fine.
Let us know the outcome.
