1999 mitsubishi mirage where to check does not have power of 5 volts in the throttle position sensor connector and check the fuses I did not find bad

Has the code P0120 the car does not work just change the thermostat when I started it started to throw white smoke. loses strength does not develop the speeds

Loss of 5-volt reference can be caused by an open in the wire (check the continuity of the wire from computer to TPS) OR a short in the harness or another sensor that uses the same reference wire. White smoke off the engine or out the tailpipe? Loss of 5-volts would never cause white smoke out the tailpipe

SOURCE: Check engine light is on and high idle (1500rpm)

Some times the E.G.R. will stick half open. This will make the engine surge or have high idle. Try replaceing the E.G.R. located under the upper intake. Do not go with after market E.G.R. The spring in them are to powrefil and the E.G.R. wil not open. Also try replaceing the O2 sensors. This could give the engine more fuel thus a higher idle. Some vehicles the T.P.S. can be ajusted, do some checking to see if yours is adjustable.

first check cylinder 1 , spark plug, ht leads, coil,

then clean the trottle body with carb cleaner

if that does not work replace the throttle body, comes complete, and do a basic setting on it with diagnostic machine

there is no crank sensor on this vehicles 2.0L. If you have power to the coil, new coil, cap and rotor try this if not done yet>>>Unplug coil power first....Try pulling off the distributor cap, and make sure the rotor is spinning with the cam...If this fails to spin, inspect the entire distributor assembly. If it passes, Inspect all the power circuit and wiring to the dist assembly, if ok possible ecu. i recommend having a mechanic check it out!! Hopefully this helps...please rate...thanks

Replace spark plug wires and plugs. Sometimes old wires will arc to the engine block, causing missfire. Check the wires at night with lights off and engine running, if they're bad, you'll defenitely see them arcing to the engine. if they are...replace.

DTC P0651: 5-Volt Reference 2 Circuit
You have a bad sensor or a short on the five ref. circuit .
The 5-volt reference 2 buss provides 5 volts to the following sensors:
?€¢
The APP sensor 1

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor

The throttle position (TP) sensor 1 and 2

The brake booster vacuum sensor

A bad sensor or short on the five volt ref. circuit will bring down the PCM and you will have a no start . I would pull the connectors off each of these sensors listed above to see if five volt ref. comes back to five volts . I am trying to find the location for my crankshaft position sensor on my 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante


Your 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante is a 3.5L MFI SOHC 6cyl engine.
MFI = multi-port fuel injection
SOHC = single overhead camshaft
This answer covers Mitsubishi Diamante1.8L, 2.4L, 3.0L (SOHC and DOHC), 3.5L, and 1997-2000 1.5L Engines.

Remove the sensor and slide the reluctor wheel off of the crankshaft-2.4L engine shown.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing belt.
3. Unplug the sensor connector.
4. Unfasten the two retaining bolts, then remove the CKP sensor from the vehicle.
5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Test procedure:


1. Test powers and grounds at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on the C1 connector. Pins 2 and 22 are power, then check pins 31 and 32 for ground.

2. Next, test the 5 volt power supplies at pin 17 of the C1 connector and pin 31 of the C2 or middle connector for shorts to ground. Sensors on the circuit are the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor, Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

3. Unplug the sensors on the 5 volt power supply, one at a time, while monitoring the 5 volt supply.

4. When the shorted sensor is unplugged, the PCM will wake up and scan tool communication will return.

5. The wiring harness could also be shorted to ground on one of the 5 volt power supply wires. Cut the wires at the PCM on pins C1-17 and just unplug the center connector. Then check for the 5 volts on the PCM of the connector or checking for any continuity to ground with the sensors unplugged at the PCM connector on C1-17 and C2-31 to check the wiring harness

My 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage just emits a series of clicks when I try to start it, but the battery is fine. . . could it be my starter?


Rapid and repeated clicking when the key is in the crank position is usually a sign of a dead battery. How did you check the condition or charge of the battery. If you have w volt meter hook it up to the battery and read the voltage when you try to start the car. It should not drop below 12 volts. If it does you have a battery that is low on charge. Have you tried jump starting it? One single click when you turn the key to the start position is usually and indication of a bad starter. More specifically a bad starter solenoid which is part of the starter. Usually you can have somebody hold the key in the crank position while you lightly tap the starter with a hammer and it will start to work. If it does replace it immediately.

P0121 and p0068 on a 2003 dodge ram 1500 replace the throttle position sensor and the idle air sensor at the same time then ran for a week with no problems then the truck started idling up at random then...


P0121 The Throttle position sensor is a potentiometer that measures the amount of throttle opening. As the throttle is opened, the reading (measured in volts) goes up. The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies a 5 Volt reference signal to the throttle position sensor (TPS) and usually a ground also. A general measurement is: at idle = .5 Volts; full throttle = 4.5 Volts. If the PCM detects that the throttle angle is greater or less than it should be for a specific RPM, it will set this code.
Potential Symptoms Symptoms of a P0121 trouble code could include:
  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination (Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light)
  • Intermittent stumble on acceleration or deceleration
  • Blows black smoke on acceleration
  • No start
Causes A code P0121 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • TPS has intermittent open or short internally
  • Harness is rubbing and causing an open or short in the wiring
  • Bad connection at the TPS
  • Bad PCM (less likely)
  • Water or corrosion in connector or sensor
Possible Solutions 1. If you have access to a scan tool, see what the idle and WOT (wide open throttle) readings are for the TPS. Check if they're close to the specifications mentioned above. If not, then replace the TPS and re-check.

2. Check for an intermittent open or short in the TPS signal. To do that, you can't use a scan tool. You'll need an oscilloscope. The reason is because scan tools take samplings of many different readings over just one or two data lines and can miss an intermittent drop out. Hook up your oscilloscope and watch the signal. It should sweep up and down smoothly with no drop outs or spikes.

3. If no problems were noticed, perform a wiggle test. Do this by wiggling the connector and harness while watching the pattern. Does it drop out? If so, replace TPS and re-check.

4. If you have no TPS signal, check for 5 Volt reference at the connector. If it's present, check the ground circuit for open or shorts.

5. Make sure the signal circuit isn't 12V. It should never have battery voltage. If it does, trace circuit for short to voltage and repair.

6. Look for any water in the connector and replace TPS as necessary.
