1999 Pontiac Bonneville 3800 engine. How do I replace the water thermostat?

Follow the top radiator hose down. It will connect to the engine. At the point that it connects to the engine is where the thermostat is located. This thermostat cover will have two bolts. Some of the 3800 engines have a temp sensor in the housing. You will not have to mess with the sensor. The housing will have 2 bolts that hold it on. Remove the two bolts and the housing will lift off. And the thermostat will be under the housing. Replace the thermostat. And reinstall the housing.

How to install thermostat

The best thing to do is to buy a Haynes or Chilton manual for your vehicle.

Purchase the replacement thermostat and gasket (no they do not come as a set.)
Items needed: socket and ratchet, a tube of liquid gasket, a wire brush, screwdriver for hose clamp

Open the hood, disconnect the Neg terminal of the battery (not the red one)
The radiator accept hot water at the top and feeds it to the water pump on the bottom.
Most thermostats are located on the engine block at the other end of the water hose going to the top of the radiator.
Trace it back, and remove the hose clamp.
Pull the hose clamp back (you do not need to take it off)
Pull the hose off the thermostat hosing neck.
The housing will be held on by 2 or 3 bolts, remove the bolts to remove the housing
The thermostat should come loose.
There will be gasket material stuck to the housing and the engine block, it must be scraped off before installing the new gasket.
Compare old thermostat with new one. Make sure they match.
A good tip is to stress the new thermostat in boiling water to insure it works. Boils some water, and place the thermostat in the water and watch it open. pour out the water, run it under cold water to cool it off.
After using a wire brush to remove the old gasket material,
place liquid gasket along the edge of the engine block opening and place the new gasket on the opening.'
Place the new thermostat in place (IT MUST GO IN ONE WAY)
Place the housing back on the engine block and replace the bolts, (tighten the bolts gradually )
replace the hose on the neck, and replace the clamp and tighten.
remove all tools and reconnect the battery

Good luck and don't forget to vote.

I was wondering where the thermostat was located

Follow the top radiator hose to the engine block. You will see a housing similar to the picture below. The thermostat is mounted under this housing.

Where is the thermostat located on a 94 toy/4 cylider

Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to where it attaches onto the engine. The thermostat is inside the housing that the hose attaches to. Remove the radiator hose at thermostat housing. Remove the housing. There are usually two bolts. The thermostat is inside. Scrape off all old gasket material and clean the housing. Install new thermostat and gasket. Be sure not to overtighten the bolts on the housing. The housing is usually cast metal and is easily cracked or broken if the bolts are overtightened. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Where is the thermostat housing on a 1006 Buick Regal?

The thermostat in the 3.1 engine is in the thermostat housing. Follow the upper radiator hose towards the engine, where the hose connects to the engine is the thermostat housing which leads under the throttle body. Yup, it's not the easiest thing to get to unless you have small hands and a few socketextensions and swivel. If you have small hands you can remove the thermostat housing without removing the throttle body. Just remove cross over exhaust heat shield to give you enough room to get the socket with an extension and swivel to the two bolts to the thermostat housing under the throttle body. Remove front bolt and the second one just needs to be loosen and you can wiggle out the thermostat housing to replace the thermostat. If you need more room, your going to have to remove the throttle body and replace the throttle body gasket also to give you more room to get the thermostat housing out. Good luck and hope this helps and take care not to damage the temperature sensor on the manifold just in front of the housing. Keep me posted if you have any more questions and take your time.

Thermostat for 318i 3 series E36

Follow the upper hose to the engine. The hose should be connected to the neck of the thermostat housing. Remove the housing and replace the thermostat. I suggest you buy the Chilton manual or equivalent for that car. That will help you a lot. Most parts stores have them or you can buy them online.
