Security light comes on at random, car cuts off at random

OMG! I have the same problem. My security light comes on at random and I have to wait the 3 minutes before the car will crank. In addition, my car just cuts off in the middle of me driving, gauges are not out of whack or anything, car just cuts off. It will eventually crank back up but it has begun to take longer and longer to get it to crank.

97 Chevrolet Lumina. Won't start. Lights, horn, radio all work. Tried jumpstarting. Still nothing. Tapped starter and it started but cuts right off. Noticed Security light flashing. Checked all...

You have a security issue going on. Try turning the key to the on position and leave it on without trying to start the car. Wait about 10 minutes and the light will stop flashing and come one solid. Then try to start the car. Turn the key to the off position. Wait 60 seconds and then turn the key to the on position. See if the light is still flashing. If it is then try the process again. If it isn't flashing and it is on solid then start your car.

Why does the security light come on when I start my car?

The security light should always illuminate for 2-3 seconds and then turn off when you initially start your vehicle. It does this just as a self test kind if thing. If the light is randomly turning on and off while driving, this is a different problem and will eventually leave you and your car stranded somewhere unable to start the vehicle. This link will help with that problem. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

TAIL LIGHTS STAYING ON. 1998 JAGUAR XK8

All the lighting goes through the security module in the trunk. If both lamps are staying on them you probably need a new security module. If one light is staying on then you have cut the wire for that tail lamp coming out of the security module and jump the wire from the other tail lamp so both are powered on the one circuit. But first remove the lamp cluster, disconnect it and make sure you do have constant power going to the cluster. If so then first I would perform a hard reboot on the car. Disconnect both sides of the battery, wait for about 30 seconds and then join both of the DISCONNECTED BATTERY TERMINALS TOGETHER (this discharges any memory in the computers) Then reconnect the positive to the battery then the negative. Start the car, reset your clock and retest the lights. If you have the same issue then start with the wiring to the security module.

Jut replaced the fuel pump. Security light keeps

It starts with the security light and then gets worse till the car won't start anymore. The security system (VATS/Passkey) installed on these GM cars is anti-owner more than an anti-theft. There are 3 parts involved: 1) The chip-key 2) The lock cylinder 3) The TDM (aka the brain of the system) if any of these parts fails or is even slightly malfunctioning, the car stays stuck where you are and you only get a dealer asking you about 1,000$ to fix it. And all the 3 parts have a quite short lifespan. Way too many people got in this situation (including myself). I don't recommend any partial solution or any used parts as it would happen again way too soon to be acceptable and if it happens 100 miles from home (like it happened to me....) it's a big burden. I finally made it to save my beloved 94 Park Avenue (with the same system that is installed in your car) with a solution that I found on the internet and that bypasses the entire factory security system, all 3 pieces altogether and you can even remove the TDM at the end and use 99c keys without chip. The product I used is at http://newrockies.com and is still working perfectly after 5 years. Don't go to the dealer!

Security problem

Make sure you are turning the ignition to the on position. Most cars will flash the security light until it is reset. Then the car should start.

Car doesn't start randomly. "security" light comes on and off. Have to leave key in "on" position for 10 min. to reprogram. Is there a fix?

you may have the same problem I ran into and have to turn your key on don't start the car yet wait about ten seconds with key on on position then turn it over should stop the security lite from coming on all the time and locking the fuel lines. let me know if this worked
A mechanic told me maybe if I replace the ignition that may be it setting off the security sensors? I don;t know I just wait ten seconds with the key on before I start it and as long as I do that it seems to work every time.
