Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

While accelerating at high speeds or going up hill my car engine completely dies and my power steering and brakes are hard to control. usually it will happen after exceeding more than 50 miles at a time. after i pull off road and turn my car off it will start back up again after a few minutes. my lights and everything remain on but engine has completely died. i have ran a computer scan and nothing has shown up. i had also changed he fuel filer close to almost two years ago. i can usually tell when my car is about to die because i can feel and hear it running really hard. my air conditioning has also been acting up. if i am at a stop and have my air running it will make a sound almost like a spewing. the air gets hot and it gives my car a shake. i haven't really noticed that my air is interfering with my car dying but it could have something to do with it. thank you for listening hope to hear something back soon =].

Don't know what the fuel quality is like where you are but two years is about it for my filter...certainly will not hurt to change it. If engine is running marginally and you have an a/c problem it may be just enough to kill it going uphill, but check that filter first! Later, if you need to, check mass air flow and map sensors and, find out what's going on with a/c!

Loss of power at highway speed is usually clogged fuel filter or clogged air filter. Checking fuel pressure won't tell you if the filter is clogging up. You can still have pressure, just no volume. Air filters can do the same, except it will usually die or stumble coming to stops. The abs and disable light won't affect the engine performance. Hopefully you have a bad wheel sensor that is also disabling the AWD. The sensor is around $100 the actuator for the AWD is over $300

1992 toyota camry v6 le boggs down on acceleration

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. Your car should normally idle at about 700-750 RPM. You said that yours was at about 1000-1500, that is waaay to high. If you have a leak somewhere in the system the car will draw in extra air and it will want to idle much higher and will also be very erratic and hard to drive.

Loss of power on acceleration. Put new fuel

Probably the ignition timing is not advancing the spark on acceleration or high rpm's.

That is the job of the ECM (Electronic Control Module). Check it / Replace it.

Hope this helps!

Can't get speed go up hills

That's often the sign of a clogged fuel filter. Running on level ground or not trying to accelerate hard, enough fuel can get through for the engine to make the power you need. But when you try to punch it to accelerate quickly, or you try to go up a hill (basically anytime max power is needed), the car can't flow enough fuel to the engine to make that power, and the car seems to fall on its face. Change your fuel filter out and see if that helps.
