SOURCE: 88 Suzuki samurai 4x4 will not engage.
The shifter sheet is worn out or not even there (its rubber) from multiple uses. It eventually decades.
Tons of Samurai enthusiast retailers carry them. Lowrangeoffroad, Petroworks, Trail Tough, and more.
They also carry the one for the tranny shifter.
SOURCE: 05 Durango transfer case will not engage, stuck in neutral
I had this happen to me today and found that it was a simple linkage problem.
If the 4WD-Neutral-2WD stick on the floor console moves freely try crawling under the vehical and make sure that the shift linkage is attached to the transmission. On mine I found a cotter pin had broken and the shift lever was not staying connected.
Make sure the shifter on the steering colum is in neutral and engine off when making these repairs.
Good luck
SOURCE: stuck in 4 wheel drive and wont come out.
hey there i cant tell you what you are missing but i can tell you how to disengage the front wheels . ok you have a vacum line that runs right under the battery and a line that comes up from the front diff. to the same place ( you may have to remove batt and batt tray to get full access to this) un bolt it and temporaly put batt and batt tray back in start it up and decompress this and see if it comes out .... you should here clunking noise if it goes back in ... if thats the case just pull that big vaccum line off .... to test get all four tires off the ground and have some one put it in drive but dont hit the gas it should turn on its own ...if that dont work check the cable that runs down to the differental

Sounds like you either have a vaccum leak or your 4 wheel drive actuator is not working to engage the front differential. On my 98 ram there is a black and red plastic lines that are used for the vaccum lines. They are underneath and go from the transfer case to the front axle, check to see if one or both might be cracked or broke completely. If the lines are good then it could be your actuator on the front axle. A new one is about $93 at advance auto parts and not very hard to replace
