We have a remeha advanta boiler which has just been drained to allow for an extra radiator in the house. The boiler is working the radiators but won't shut off and the hot water is only warm?

sounds like the thermostat. the thermostat lets the water flow from the block to the top of the radiator.

If the head and gasket are good, and hoses not blocked, and the coolant pump is good and the rad is not blocked, all sensors and thermostats good, then it could be the heater core.

If you can bypass this during summer, it may help. The heater core is like a very small radiator, and often they get blocked up. This can restrict the collant getting around the engine properly, and cause overheating. If you leave this bypassed, you won't get hot air blowing into your cab during winter with the heater on --------- hey, who cares right now when it's summer!

Hi

It sounds very much from your description that there is a strong possibility of air being trapped within the cooling system and causing the problem. This will cause the low fluid warning to appear on the car and although the vehicle will appear to be full of fluid - in fact you cannot replace enough fluid because of an air trap in the system.

Most vehicles cooling systems can be bled by removing the cap from the radiator or header tank and then simply allowing the vehicle to tick over for 10 minutes or so. Check and replace the fluid as the air is expelled from the system through the open header tank/radiator.

This may well resolve the problem without any further action on your part.

Some vehicles do have specific bleeding procedures for the cooling system but as far as I am aware this simple procedure is the standard method with your vehicle.

Also it is important to pay attention as to why the vehicle is loosing coolant in the first place. Is there a leak any where - check coolant hoses are not cracked. Is vehicle overheating because of fan failure hence boiling off fluid? Is there evidence of water getting into oil pointing to head gasket problems?

These things should all be considered in addition to clogged radiator.

SOURCE: It Started about 6 months

REPLACE UPPER RADIATOR HOSE IT IS TOO SOFT WORN OUT CAUSE HOSE TO CLASP.I WOULD REMOVE THERMOSTAT FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK AND RADIATOR COOLANT SYSTEM NEED FLUSHING OUT.

The thermostat is located on the side of the water pump, the water pump is located just above the a/c compressor, the thermostat is fed coolant from the radiators lower radiator hose.
Thermostat :
1. drain coolant and tighten drain plug ( easier method : remove radiator cap, get big drain pan, place drain pan under lower radiator hose to radiator connection, remove clamp, slowly remove hose, allow coolant to drain into pan, now is a good time to remove radiator hose and clamp from thermostat housing )
2. remove thermostat cover / cap ( easiest to get at this when front of car is supported by jack stands and right hand side lower cover is removed ).
3. thermostat cap is held on by 3 bolts / remove thermostat.

You will notice that the thermostat's air bleed hole is pointing up and lines up with notch in water pump housing,,

ATTENTION :failure to install new thermostat in the correct location will cause engine to overheat.

1. install new thermostat to water pump, make sure air bleed hole lines up with notch, install and tighten bolts, install a new lower radiator hose, fill cooling system.

How to back flush heater core 2007 grand prix

drain coolant system locate heater cores hoses going through firewall you need to buy the radiator flush kit at any auto parts stores. remove heater cores hoses from one end or buy extra long heater hoses same size as heater core hoses in vechicle at auto parts store use the flush kit when you flush through one of the heater core hoses let the other hose drain in a drain pan when you use home garden hose use low water pressure dont use garden hose to the max or you will rupture heater core. your best bet let radiator shop flush whole coolant system. because heater cores hoses are in a tight spot.make sure engine off if you just going to flush out heater core only .after flushing heater core good time to replace heater core hoses.if job too hard or complicated let radiator shop flush out radiator the engine block and heater core because if radiator stopped up or engine block stopped up the gunk and rust will reenter plug up heater core.if you tight on money you can flush out your own radiator.drain out radiator using large drain pan. remove top radiator hose and remove bottom radiator hoses connect to water pump.use garden hose with flush kit part with water pressure not too high put garden hose to top radiator hose run water until clear water run out bottom radiator hose in drain pan,the flush out engine block remove thermostat.if you had another spare thermostat housing with RTV SILICONE SEALANT THAT HAS SET UP INSTALL THERMOSTAT HOUSING BACK TO ENGINE WITHOUT THERMOSTAT FLUSH OUT THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHEN DONE INSTALL NEW THERMOSTAT THEN INSTALL ORIGINAL THERMOSTAT HOUSING WITH NEW ORING WHICH YOU BUY AT DEALERSHIP.IF ALL SOUND COMPLICATED LET RADIATOR SHOP FLUSH OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.

Need to replace thermostat

Thermostats on I-4 and I-5 Colorado's are very straight forward, the thermostat and the housing are a single unit. Thermostat housing is sealed by a rubber seal and is held on to block by two bolts. Procedure is as follows

1.drain cold coolant by removing radiator cap and using radiator drain petcock.

2. disconnect top hose from thermostat

3. unbolt thermostat housing.

4. install new housing, be careful to not overtorque, block is aluminum

5. connect top hose and close drain petcock

6. refill with new coolant and close radiator cap

7. start engine and check for leaks.

8. if no leaks are detected, allow engine to reach operating temperature. shutdown and allow to cool completely, verify that coolant level is correct.

The thermostat of a 2002 audi a4 is located between the engine and the radiator. The thermostat is small and crucial. It is meant for the vehicles cooling system. It moderates the flow of coolant into the engine by releasing it when the engine need it the most. The thermostat is designed to open its valve once the temperature of the engine reaches about 200 degrees F. Its purpose is to keep the engine running at a consistent temperature, allowing your Audi A4 to operate at peak performance.

If You are planning on replacing the thermostat, here are the steps to follow to replace them, try to get these instruments (Car ramps, 4-by-4 inch wood block, Metric socket wrench set, Socket extension, Pliers, Drain pan, Empty plastic container, Black marker, Towel, Emery cloth, Gasket seal) then follow the steps below:
  1. Raise the front end of your Audi A4 by driving up on a set of car ramps and placing your vehicle in park.
  2. Place a 4-by-4 inch wood block behind one of the rear tires to keep the vehicle from rolling backward.
  3. Use a socket wrench to remove the pan that covers the bottom of the engine.
  4. Locate the red plastic cap that was behind the pan that you just removed. This red cap is your radiator drain plug. Remove the radiator cap from the top of the radiator and then place a drain pan under the red drain plug and turn it with a pair of pliers to allow the coolant to drain completely from the radiator. Once the coolant has completely drained, turn the drain plug to close it off. Be careful when using the pliers on the drain plug that you do not snap the plug off.
  5. Slide under the vehicle and locate the thermostat housing that is sitting just above the oil pan drain plug. Pour the drained coolant from the drain pan into an empty plastic container and label the container so that you do not reuse the expelled coolant. Place the empty drain pan under the thermostat housing before you attempt to remove the housing to allow the coolant from the engine to drain into it.
  6. Remove the 10 mm bolts that hold the thermostat housing on the engine block with a metric socket wrench. Do not lay directly underneath the thermostat housing as the coolant from the engine will begin to drain as soon as you loosen the bolts on the housing. Keep a towel or cloth with you to clean off any spilled coolant .
  7. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine and lift the old thermostat out of the housing. Use a piece of emery cloth to clean the face of the thermostat housing and the engine block where the housing is mounted from any remaining gasket material or debris.
  8. Spread a layer of gasket seal around the face of the thermostat housing and place the new thermostat on the housing, with the thermostat spring facing out from the housing. Position the housing back on the engine block and secure it to the block with the bolts.
  9. Replace the pan the sits across the bottom of the engine of your Audi A4 and then refill the radiator with coolant and put the radiator cap back on the radiator. Remove the wood block from the back tire of your vehicle. Turn the engine on and drive the Audi A4 off of the car ramps. Allow the engine to run at idle for a few minutes to verify that the thermostat is working properly and then shut the engine off.

Where is the thermostat located in the 06 stratus

  • Find the location where the upper radiator hose connects to the intake manifold of the engine by tracing it from the radiator to thermostat intake housing bolted to the intake.
  • 2 Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat intake housing by loosening the band clamp that secures it into place. With the clamp loosened, pull the hose off the housing.
  • 3 Remove the two bolts that secure the housing to the intake manifold and then lift the housing off the intake.
  • 4 Lift the thermostat out of the intake manifold and place the new thermostat into the hole. The end of the thermostat with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the intake manifold.
  • 5 Lift the thermostat intake housing gasket off the intake manifold and place the new one onto the intake manifold.
  • 6 Place the thermostat intake housing onto the intake manifold and bolt it into place. Reconnect the hose using the band clamp.
  • Six-Cylinder Engines
  • 1 Drive the Dodge onto a set of front-end ramps and secure the parking break. Allow adequate time for the radiator fluid to cool down. Thirty minutes is usually adequate.
  • 2 Loosen the petcock on the lower right hand side of the radiator and drain all of the radiator fluid into a drain pan. Close the petcock once drained.
  • 3 Trace the lower radiator hose to the location where the hose connects to the engine block. The metal housing the hose connects to is the lower thermostat outlet. Remove the hose from the outlet by loosening the band clamp and then by pulling the hose off the outlet. Be careful--some fluid will drain from the hose.
  • 4 Remove the two bolts that secure the thermostat outlet to the engine block and pull the thermostat outlet off the block.
  • 5 Discard the O-ring inside the bottom edge of the thermostat outlet and place a new one into the outlet.
  • 6 Pull the thermostat out of the engine block and replace it with a new one. The end with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the engine block.
  • 7 Place the thermostat outlet onto the engine block and secure it into place. Reattach the lower radiator hose with the band clamp.
  • 8 Open the radiator filler cap located on top of the radiator and fill the radiator with the fluid previously drained from the system.

    How to replace thermostat on 1997 dodge stratus 2.4 litre engine

    Follow the top radator hose to where it connects to the motor. On my 97 stratus you follow the top hose which leads to piece where the radiator cap turns on, take out the 2 bolts and underneath is your thermostat

    drain radiator first before you begin anti freeze is poison to animals you will also wont to get a thermostat houseing gasket replace the old one use 50/50 anti freeze put new thermostat in the same direction as the old one bleed air out of radiator when complete

    Replacing the thermostat on a 2000 ford explorer 4.0

  • Place the drain pan under the drain valve on the radiator. Loosen the drain valve and allow the radiator fluid to drain. If the drain pan is clean, you can reuse the antifreeze.

  • Loosen the hose clamps on the upper radiator hose using a socket, screwdriver or pliers, depending on the type of hose clamp on the hose. Pull the hose off the radiator and thermostat housing. If the air filter intake hose is in the way, loosen the clamps and remove the intake hose (on some engines).
  • Unbolt the two bolts in the thermostat housings. Pry the thermostat housing off the engine block. Pull the thermostat out of the housing. Remove the old gasket and discard. Slide the new thermostat into the housing the same way the old one came out. Install the new O-ring seal in the housing. Coat the housing with a thin layer of silicone gasket maker. Allow the gasket maker to dry.
  • Slide the bolts into the thermostat housing, then line the bolts up to the bolt holes on the block. Slide the housing down the bolts until it touches the block. Turn the bolts in by hand to get them started. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch-pounds of torque.
  • Reinstall the upper radiator hose. Tighten the radiator drain plug. Fill the cooling system. Start the engine with the radiator cap off. Allow the engine to come up to operating temperature. Look for leaks. Watch the level of the water in the radiator. Fill as needed

    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
    1. Disconnect negative battery cable. CAUTION
      Do not remove the radiator pressure cap with the cooling system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from hot, pressurized coolant can result.
    2. Allow cooling system to cool completely. Place a pan under the radiator drain, located at the lower right side of the radiator. Open the valve to drain the cooling system to a level just below the thermostat. Do NOT drain the cooling system completely, unless the coolant is being changed. Close the valve.
    3. Loosen the radiator hose clamp from the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing and if necessary disconnect the hose from the housing. Fig. 1: Loosen the radiator hose clamp from the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing 88173p06.jpg

      To install:
    6. Clean the thermostat housing bolts well. On any engine, bolts that thread into the water jacket are subject to rust and corrosion. A bolt with rust or debris in the threads can easily strip out the threads in an aluminum manifold requiring a time-consuming thread repair operation. Clean the bolts well and lightly lubricate before installation.
    7. Install the thermostat into the recess in the intake manifold. Place a new gasket, moistened with water, on the water inlet mating surface on the intake manifold.
    8. Install the thermostat housing over the gasket and thermostat and tighten the mounting bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) on the 3.3L engine and 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm) on the 3.5L engine.
    9. Connect the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing and tighten the radiator hose clamp.
    10. Refill and bleed the cooling system.

    Change thermostat on 1998 toyota camry

    1. Write down your radio code if it has some anti-theft device.
    2. Allow the engine to cool down for about 3-hours before the start of this operation.
    3. Open the hood, and disconnect the battery negative terminal. Tuck the negative terminal aside so it won't flip back.
    4. Locate the radiator drain-plug (plastic wing-nut) on the lower back side of the radiator, and turn it backward to remove it.
    5. Place a container under the radiator to catch the anti-freeze coolant.
    6. Remove the radiator cap.
    7. Once the coolant is drained, trace the upper radiator hose to where it ends on the engine(thermostat housing), and remove the hose with a medium size plier.
    8. Loosen the three bolts holding the thermostat housing. Gently take out the housing.
    9. Notice the position the thermostat was previously installed.
    10. Replace the old thermostat, and the o-ring around it. Clean its mounting area. Notice that the o-ring fits around the thermostat.
    11. Replace the thermostat housing and torque the three bolts to 78-inch pounds. Replace the upper hose.
    12. Replace the radiator drain-plug.
    13. Re-use the antifreeze coolant and be careful no dirt goes in with the coolant into the radiator.
    14. Return the radiator cap.
    15. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
    16. Start the car and check for leak.

    Important: Anti-freeze coolant harmful to the environment. Return unwanted anti-freeze coolant to collection areas.

    1999 ford contour 6 cylinder, 24 valve engine, overheating and water overflowing the reservoir, where is the thermostat located?

    If you follow the upper radiator hose from the radiatior to the engine, it connects to the thermostat housing. The housing is where the thermostat is located and it is held inplace by a couple of bolts. It is easier to replace the thermostat if you drain most of the coolant out of the radiator. There is a valve on the bottom corner of the radiator. Also, for a few extra bucks, replace the radiator cap to make sure it is functioning properly, since it was over heated.
