sounds like the valve clearances are incorrect if your engine has got adjustable valve clearances check that 0.40mm inlet 0.50mm exhaust but the engine changed in 1999 to hydraulic valve lifters and when you refit origional folowers you should compress them to remove the old oil or the new refubished cyl head/valves will have no compression because the valves are not seating
valve clearance is .014 inch for intake and exhaust with engine warm.
head torque it 21 ftlbs, then 44 ftlbs, then loosen all, torque to 89 inchlbs, then to 21ftlbs, then mark and turn the bolts an additional 60 to 65 degrees.
cyl head sub bolts torque 80 to 100 inchlbs.
