Most common place to obtain vacuum, is the inlet manifold.
Most all the earlier automatics had to use vacuum for the car to shift properly through a vacuum modulator. The top end of the vacuum line would connect to a fitting on the carburetor bottom plate. Normally in the back near the power brake booster vacuum line which is larger in diameter.

you sure its not the breather tube for the t-case. about 3/8 hose if it is. the vacuum lines for the 4x4 are small plastic lines. red, blue, yellow, etc. think there are four of them
