Is there any other check valve in the system?

  • kaboot Jul 29, 2009

What is the checking procedure for the regulator?

  • kaboot Aug 03, 2009

We haven't gotten it fixed yet but we are going to have the fuel pump replaced and fuel filter. The regulator is holding pressure, we think it's the check value in the fuel pump that is failing. Thank you, Kathy

Your pressure regulater is not holding pressure on gas line. It sits overnight and air leaks into system causing car not to start. Yoy add starter fluid, car will start creating vacuum and pulling air out of system and car will now run. Till it sits again. Replace pressure regulater on fuel line. Is located close to injectors on top of engine. Usually with a vacuum line attached. Aslo check vac line attached for leak.

New regulator is not costly. I usually just replace. You can use a vac tester to hook to it and see if loosing vac. Only way to test.

1992 Chevy Astro won't run, will start up great with starting fluid, or let it sit overnight.

You need to check the fuel pump pressure and I would change the fuel filter in the process. Sounds like you may have a bad fuel pump.

1999 Chevy S10 4.3L starting Problem... My truck doesn't start after it has sat for a while, usually after it sits overnight. Typically it starts after a little starting fluid.

It sounds like the fuel drainback valve is allowing fuel pressure to bleed off overnight. In some cases you can add an external one, in others a new fuel pump is required to be installed, check with your favorite mechanic.

Do you smell gasoline fuel ?? When there's too much fuel, it saturates the spark plugs, preventing ignition. Let it sit for an hour to let spark plugs dry, then it starts OK later. Next time, turn starter without giving any throttle or very small throttle as engine turns. Myself, when my 2006 Dodge Plymouth minivan (sitting in storage) needs to start, I squirt (half second) starting fluid into air filter, close the air filter housing to trap flammable gas from starting fluid, then turn the engine without pressing on throttle. When the engine starts is when I give it a little throttle to bring up the RPM to 2,000 until it idles on its own without stalling from cold engine.

Will not start without starter fluid, runs fine after starting with fluid

Hi,
Starter fluid? if u kept using that starter fluid cleaner, it might damage the rotor winding! Better go to ur garage and have them check it! It might only needs cleaning and lubricating!
Hope that helps u out!

i was told that if the jeep all of a sudden didnt start on its own without giving it gas, then next time you start it hold the pedal all the way to the floor and it resets something in the computer and sets you back to normal.

88 Toyota Corolla backfires through carburetor.

If that is carbureted, and has a mechanical fuel pump, try running a length of fuel line from inlet side of pump to a gas can that has fresh, clean fuel, and if it runs good that way, you know problem is most likely in the tank. Removing the tank & cleaning it out is best solution from there. I'd even be tempted to add a small bottle or 2 of Lucas Fuel Sytem Cleaner to first fill in clean tank, just to help clean lines as well as carb.

Will not start without spraying starter fluid for a second.

I would start by changing the fuel filter. The next area would be the O-rings if so equipped. If it starts better after a short use then you are getting air in the fuel lines overnight. Diesels are tempermental. The cranking speed of the starter is important and easily checked externally. If you have a mechanical fuel pump you are relying on cranking speed to prime the fuel system. The timer or timing wiring could prevent the glowplugs from heating up. Diesels rely on glowplugs to start, then compression to run. Its a lot to look at but I suggested the cheapest fixes first.
