Why is the shift leaver loose (not working) but the car is still in gear and able to drive in the last gear it was in when it whent loose?

Sounds like the cable is loose or an cable adjuster needs adjusting, check both in the engine bay and under the car, something is loose.

I installed a 2001 Windstar transmission into a 1999 Windstar. It shifts funny. Do I need to change the PCM or computer to make it shift correctly?

That is a possibility (call a dealer to find out for sure), but the simplest answer may be the throttle kickdown cable, which is common on most vehicles. It monitors throttle position (for instance, to tell the transmission that you just stomped the gas pedal to merge onto the freeway in front of a tractor trailer that is hauling but in your direction, so it needs to shift down quickly for some much needed acceleration). I have solved a few shift point problems by walking through the simple kickdown cable adjustment process, which can take as little as 5 minutes. You probably already checked the fluid level, but check it carefully, per the manual, on level ground, if you weren\'t that picky the first time. Some transmissions are much more sensitive to fluid level than others. All this assumes that the transmission was known to have no issues before you installed it, of course.

P1776 is the only code you need to be concerned with it a problem with the solenoid back (not the transmission valve body) Also did you recieve the transmission reflash that the dealer are supposed to do? And this is why you are dealing with a delay engagement (by the way its not second gear its 3rd)

Symptoms are those of a clutch up for replacement. There's a thin layer of clutch plate left before the rivets holding the plates hit the metal clutch surface. The effects you describe are quite normal.

There are 2 flavors of clutch replacement - new and refurbished. Both usually can be obtained through a WV dealer. The difference is usually warranty and price.

Driving down freeway at 60 mph the speedometer just quit then after I left freeway the car would not shift out of 2nd gear.

you probably have a bad VSS. while driving the car see if your cruise control will engage. if it doesn't , replace the VSS. (vehicle speed sensor) It will also cause your car not to shift correctly if it is not working.

"Pulling" when speeding up

you need to change the oil thre times every 3000 miles and youll feel the difference. It happens because you take a long time to change the oil and it creates oil clots and it is harder for the pistons to move

Knocking noise in 3.8 lit 95 ford taurus

You can not put a liquid where metal is supposed to be. Just a general rule of thumb. The high RPM's had been too much for the engine, and A rod bearing, or rod knocking is about the same thing. Dont try the heavier oil thing, I hate when ppl suggest such stuff. Just replace the bearing, or in most cases and cost efficent, the engine.
