Does the high-pitch whine exist when the engine is just running? Not moving (transmission is not in gear)? Running but with transmission in neutral (coasting down hill)?
not a good situation! could blow your engine!! take it to a qualified honda dealer, and have them run code check on it- may be 'tps'- throttle position sensor. the code read may cost more than the fix! however, 8k rpms aren't healthy for your engine- so, check and fix may be cheaper than replacing engine! could also be your fuel vapor recovery canister is 'over -loaded', but unlikely! good luck!
your transmission has several electrical items in it from speed sensor to shif solonoids your car is getting hot because you are running high rpms you might want to pull some codes off your car with a diagnostic machine
Check and clean the IAC valve. Idle Control Valve. Use brake cleaner or carburater cleaner . Remove the duct work from the air filter assembly. It is located just inside . Run the engine at 1200 rpms and spray the valve. The valve can also be removed and cleaned.
