Did you check/replaced the fuel filter too... also after you put every thing back together did you bleed all the air out of system...
He said crank sensor, thinking it may have lost ignition (spark). Stalling like yours is often caused by loss of either spark or gas. Since you have a new fuel pump, he thought maybe had lost spark.
When it happens again and won't restart, that is the time to test for spark on a plug wire. If you have lost spark, something in the ignition system is bad. If you can narrow it down to that, then you are on the way to proper diagnosis. The crank sensor is often the cause of loss of spark, but not the only thing.

can you hear fuel pump run/if not get another person to crank while you hit gas tank with hammer if car starts you should take to shop

Maybe check ignition control modual.

It sounds like it could be the transfer pump. Turn the key on and then crank the engine for about 1 second but leave the key in the run position and listen for the transfer pump to run. It should run for about 15 seconds after you stop cranking. If not, then you will need to replace the transfer pump with a in-the-tank conversion kit if your is mounted on the side of the engine block below the fuel filter housing. If you already have the in-the-tank pump then it might be siezed or the "sock" might be plugged up with alge or other contaminants. I usually lift the bed rather than removing the tank to replace the fuel module. If the check engine light is on you might want to have it scanned for codes to make sure since the modules can be spendy.
SOURCE: 96 cherokee was missing/cutting out/dying out.would crank after sitting, now it wont start
the crankshaft position sensor controls spark and if faulty would give the symptons you have described you need to get this checked first
