Question about 2001 Chevrolet Impala

My dashboard lights do not come on when I turn the lights on.

My dashboard lights do not come on. I took the dashboard apart thinking it was a defective bulb, but I could find a bulb as described in the Haynes manual. Any ideas? Where does the dashboard get illuminated from?
I also couldn't find a defective fuse thinking that might be an easy fix

Hello i took off my cluster on my 02 sebring and i have everything apart i want to know which bulb do i replace for my dash lights to work

If you have it all apart, I would replace all of them so you don't have to take it all apart again! Bulbs fail close to each other.

But not the error warning signal lights.

Generally the dashboard lights for the instrument cluster are directly above and below the cluster.

Turn on your headlights and check to see if your taillights are working. They act as a fuse to your dashlights, its a safety thing

Loud rattling noise in dashboard

I had the same problem. I took apart the dash a thousand times, searching for the issue. It turns out you're right, it's the hood "hinge" bolts. Just place some rubber bushings on them, tighten them up, and maybe wrap some teflon tape around them, it goes right away!

Loose contact of dashboard light

This is usually a loosing proposition,  if the switch is failing, it is unlikely that cleaning the contacts will work long if at all.  Unless you time is worth less than $10 an hour, better off to get a new switch if that's what is bad.  Check for problems with a dimmer switch (if present)  for dashboard lights.

The lights on the instrument panels as well as the radio flash at intermittent intervals. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when this happens (i.e. hot or cold car, bumps or no bumps, turns or no...

I had intermittent instrument light problem that went dark for months, until today. :o) I read somewhere that it could be the dimmer switch and didn't think that was my problem as the dimmer worked (dimmed the radio and transmission indicator light) and playing with it never seemed to help with the problem. I did find it odd that dimmer was not completely linear, as it would get brighter up to a certain point and get slightly dimmer with the last little bit of travel.

Today, I took the instrument cluster apart to fix a broken clock, sticking gas & voltage gauges, and to explore the instrument light problem. I took apart the dimmer switch, and to my surprise (was expecting a simple POT), it was a very complicated PCB with some IC's, resistors, transistors, etc. I thought, "all this just to dim the light???" Anyway, I found the POT (potentiometer) and gave a few squirts of WD-40 and found it turning smoother. After putting it back together, the instrument light came back and the dimmer is now perfectly linear. Apparently, less than perfect POT causes some sort of funny logic through the network of IC's and transistors and can cause the instrument light to go on or off randomly at certain intervals.

Anyway, I'm so happy to have the light back along with a working clock and not having to punch the instrument cluster to see how much fuel I have. Not really a posting type, but wanted to help someone else out there with a similar problem with same cause.

Instrument cluster

My moms car is doing the same thing. I just checked online and the clusters range from 89.00 to 109.00. SO I'm guessing they rest out of the 400.00 is for labor because they have to take apart the dashboard. However, I still think 400.00 is a bit pricey. I took my car to someone in NY and they took it apart and didn't charge me. They told me what was wrong and now I have the option of fixing it or not. I'm waiting for a total price. I would say 200.00 or 250.00 is good enough.
