There is no P4156 but, there is P1456....it is this:

P1456 EVAP System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank)

You either have a cracked hose or an air leak to or on the fuel tank.

The Automatic Transmission Diagnostic System Check is an organized approach to identify a problem created by an automatic transmission. The Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.2L or Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L is the diagnostic starting point for an automatic transmission complaint. The Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.2L or Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L directs you to the next logical step for diagnosing a transmission concern. Perform this check only if there is a driveability complaint or if you have been directed here from another service information section.
Follow the table to help reduce diagnostic time and help prevent unnecessary replacement of good parts.
  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Important: Check for applicable service bulletins before proceeding with this test. Perform this test only if there is a driveability complaint or if you have been directed to this table from another section in the service information.
Important: Do not turn the ignition OFF when performing this diagnostic procedure. Do not clear the DTCs unless instructed by this diagnostic procedure.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Does the scan tool turn ON?

Go to Diagnostic Starting Point - Data Link Communications in Data Link Communications

2
Is the MIL ON?

Important: Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), engine performance, and transmission default actions can greatly affect the transmission performance. Ensure that these items are not the cause of a transmission concern.
Use the scan tool Capture Info function in order to save or capture (Store Info) any DTC Information.
Are there any DTCs present?

My Dodge Durango '04 has a sound and the check engine light on as you can see in the video. One mechanic friend said it was a leak between the exhaust and catalytic. I took it to the inspection today

Hello
When the service engine soon light (Also called the check engine light or engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint" testing.

The check engine light resently came on . There is no problem with the car or any noise.

Very rarely do check engine lights come on and their is an apparent change in noise of an engine. Most issues are very gradual in their effects but poor gas milage is usually a good indicator. The number one cause of the light coming on is from a manufacture's predetermined trigger at a certain milage to have a major tune up done. This is different for every model but can range from 60,000 to 120,000 but can vary beyond this and could also repeat at certain intervals (i.e. every 60 thousand miles or such). This can be reset by a mechanic or even some auto parts store for free but you shouldn't ignore (for long) the required or suggested maintenance especially if it is time to replace your timing belt. If there is a component that has failed the auto parts store will give you those codes for free but a mechanic would probably charge you at that point. Either way it's nothing to ignore as one malfunction can lead to others (i.e. a sensor fails and makes the engine run rich [too much fuel] and this in turn clogs up and ruins a very costly catalytic converter).

05 outback p2009 code and cruise control light flashing

Hello,

I am unable to find a P2009 code. The closest I have come across is a P2109 which is:

THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR "A" MINIMUM STOP PERFORMANCE

Which will usually be accompanied by:
  • Improper idling.
  • Poor driving performance.
  • Engine stalls.
Also the "Cruise" light will always flash when the Check Engine light is on with these later models, but it does not mean there is a concern with the Cruise control. The diagnostic checks for these cars require the SDS: Subaru Diagnostics System.(A laptop computer with Subaru specific diagnostic software). These concerns are unfortunately not easy to diagnose w/out Subaru dealership resources. I hope this info helps.

I have a 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager with the 3.3L V6. The 'MAINT REQD' light has been on for months. I can't get the ignition cycling to give me a code readout. I don't if I'm doing...

When the Check Engine Soon Light comes on , your first instinct is to pull over and check out the situation. This is not necessary. This is the vehicles way of letting you know at its earliest stage that an error has occurred. No need to panic. If you have been driving with that all annoying light on, remember this : Your gas mileage will improve if the necessary repairs are made.
LOOKING FOR CODE INFORMATION GO HERE : DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

The first thing to do when your "Check Engine Soon" light comes on is to determine the immediate cause. Consider if the vehicle is still performing as usual or if a loss of performance is noticeable. Generally a constant illuminated light without loss of performance points to an emissions related issue( this won't leave you stranded). When the light flashes, this indicates a serious engine failure condition and will require immediate attention. You may wish to take your vehicle to a local shop and have Computer Diagnostics performed. Usually costs under $100.00.

Generally all vehicles from 1996 and up have an OBD II computer. The Major problem when it comes to OBD II is that you can no longer acquire the trouble codes by counting the flashes of the Check Engine light like you could on earlier OBD I vehicles. You can take your car into a local high-tech service shop, where the minimum charge for computer diagnostics and engine diagnostics might cost you somewhere into three digits. Or you may want to learn about OBD II systems. in order to do so you will need an OBD II scan tool. I have already done the research for you and located several different scan tools for you to choose from. If you already have the code and need to know what it means check out our complete list of OBD II Codes Here.

OBD II scan tools connect to the vehicle's computer through a connector under the dash by the steering wheel.

Check engine light is on and it runs rough

You will need to pull a DTC (computer diagnostic code) from the PCM (engine computer). This will require a code reader ($40.00) or you can go to an Autozone and they can pull this code for free. Then, and only then, can a diagnostic procedure begin. The computer in vehicles today have the ability to assist us in repair procedures.
